Martin Guitar DCX1E

As some of you may be already aware of, I have a gig coming up in which I ordered a Taylor guitar 210e to perform. However, guy at my local guitar shop rang up this morning and said ''Taylor have pulled out of Ireland recently and I cant get you your 210e.''

So I said it would have to be a Martin Guitar then so he came back an hour later with a Martin cheaper than the Taylor ( which was costing me 900 euro ), said he'd do me a deal on the Martin DCX1E which retails at 850 euros.

So I'm just wandering have any of you played this Martin DCX1 and if so...is it a good buy?

BTW, have you checked out Maton Guitars? They have the greatest sounding pickups I've ever heard..

Not solid top! It's a laminate guitar, so it won't mellow and sound great in ten years like solid wood guitars do. I wouldn't do it, but thats me. Also resell will be much better on a solid guitar too!

I wouldn't pay 850 for a laminated top, either, (not even in dollars) especially since you can get very good Korean guitars with a solid top for $600 or less, and in a few cases, all solid woods. Have a look at Seagull, (especially the S6, made in Canada) Godin archtops, Washburn, (lots of models) Yamaha (be sure and ask about the top, they make lots of laminated models) or Epiphone Masterbuilt. (there's a very nice copy of Gibson's Advanced Jumbo) Breedlove and Wechter may also have a few solid specimens in your price range, but I don't know what's available in your region; a few of the above are distributed by St Louis Music, so they should be find-able. Larivee makes some great stuff, too, but don't know if they're in Eire.

I've played one at the guitar center. Playable for sure. Not my idea of a Martin, though.
Shame with the Taylor's in Ireland!

If you are looking for a great budget guitar, the Blueridge's can be a great find.
A more conservative bet could be a Takamine.

yeah I hear what your saying. Most I'll give him for it is 750. I think that most people would pay around the 700 to 750 for this guitar so I dont know where he is getting 850 from.

I have listened to some say it was as good as any Martin, and unless I'm a purist who wants an all solid wood that it wont be for me. As far as I know its high pressure laminate with a solid stop stika. So its half and half. When I heard it on youtube I thought there was a good bit of BOOM out of it and its certainly has a nice low end. The neck is made of Plywood with Mahogny and I'm told the HPL is good as in its strong and durable and can withstand different temprature changes.

At the moment I have ( not mine really lol ) a Garrison Ag-700 dreadnought series. Indian rosewood and solid all over with a dovetail neck design for that extra sustain, but it just doesnt sit well with me and I certainly dont enjoy playing it.

I have played a seagull years and years ago when I was a kid but have never seen them around since.

For ten years I owned a Big Baby Taylor that I was so in love with, but frets are gone on it now. I'm so pissed that they pulled out of Ireland. I wonder why?

My uncles like to play takemines but I never knew why. I greatly dislike the fat freboard on most of them. Great for big hands and I can play'em but after 10 mins get really annoyed with it.

I use to own a washington, not a bad guitar and they still go for a nice price. I guess tomorrow when it comes in, I'll weigh the Martin up against what he has in the shop which is mostly Washingtons, westfields and Corts. The last two brands I've never heard of. anyone here know them?

Someone told me it would cost too much. Plus I forgot to mention my cousins flatmates got a hold of it one night in aberdeen and they trashed it and the back of it slid off and I had to glue it back on. Whole guitar is just knackered and would probably only suit now as a sit at home practice guitar. Such a pity, it had a lovely fishmans pickup in it and all. was my favourite ever guitar I bought.
