Martina McBride
What do you think they´re looking for?I´m a bit confused because her last album is filled with covers.I mean, shall we look at the songs she´s written or the songs she sings? maybe both?Kind regardsLindpop

Re: Martina McBride
I know it's a quandary but since she sings the songs she writes and she sings someone else's tunes too, I think they're probably talking about her hits or near-hits. Does anyone else have thoughts?

Re: Martina McBride
Martina doesn't really write. I think the love song on her last project she was involved with, because she asked some of her favorite marquis writers to write it for her, I never checked if she had writer credit on that.Martina does big, rangy songs, about life, love, family, etc. She also does fun songs, but she generally gravitates towards more positive themes.

To write a Martina song you'd have to be very talented and then very talented at finding good luckLook at Martinas most successful songs, God's Will, My daughter's eyes,Concrete Angel, This one's for the girls, Blessed, Anyway ( which she wrote), Independence Day, study the lyrics and musicMake sure she can shine with vocals too

Re: Martina McBride
Amen to the finding good luck thing. I'm sensing that country forwards on Taxi are the hardest ones to get, especially for the major artists. When I look at the posts from people who've been forwarded, they're almost never for the country listings. I've got songs that have been picked up here in Nashville that I can't get past the screeners on Taxi. It's a tough market.Claire

Re: Martina McBride
Wow, Claire those are some great songs! My wife and I spent a bit of the evening blurting out "knee deep in gaters" every few minutes. I'm surprised none of those got forwards with Taxi. When you say you "have songs that have been picked up here in Nashville" what do you mean? Do you mine specifying in what manner the songs have been "picked up"? I've been writing for a while, but I just joined Taxi and just started the efforts of trying to market my music.

Re: Martina McBride
The songs have been picked up by publishers at pitch sessions, and by artist managers, A&R people, etc. in sit down meetings with a plugger I use. "Picked up" means that these folks have either taken copies of the songs back to their artists or have taken the songs back so that they can listen again. We actually have a version of "Knee Deep in Gators" that's been making the rounds at the University of Florida. Most of the songs on that list (above) have been returned by the Taxi reviewers (although they all give me very positive comments while they're passing on the songs, bless their hearts...). Country is a really tough market!
