Likewise. It was cool to finally attach a voice and three dimensional face to so many posts. (Unfortunately, I don't think I ever ran in to VTBP)I did learn though that its not "allends" its "Allen DS" That alone may have been worth the price of the plane ticket. Had much fun getting to know Liam, CS7String, Steve Gilbert, AudioRayne, Aub, Vicki, Anne & all the rest a little better.I must admit, although I was signed up I didn't actually buy my plane ticket until last week and almost let this year slip through the cracks. Glad I didn't.As per usual with the Rally (this was my 3rd) that battery is fully charged and I'm ready to take another big step and get an even crisper focus on my career. Also, most random moment of my weekend: As I was coming out of one of the Driver's Ed classes, someone passed me and said quite immediately, "You smell like a Chinese chicken salad." Bizarre.

Vicky, it was great to meet you finally on the last day. It was even better that you thought I might have been and A&R dude. That made me laff pretty good. Congrats on getting your track played for the panel, you did a great job on it.Best,--Andy Warr.(bald guy from Oregon)

yeah Lamont was awesome- i was blown away that he has like 10,000 songs written and writes everyday- very inspiring. i did notice in the panels a lot more people having higher production skills than in years past (kinda cool that we're all getting better, but kind of annoying because it is more competitive ), and i found tanvi patel's analysis of "broadcast quality" vs. "master quality," to be interesting (amongst many other than things, of course). VTBP, i put a note to you on Jeff's post too (should've put it here...)

Quote:Vicki, you got your track played fo a panel? Which one? What'd they say?? (oh wait, should I ask that last one? I never know what those guys think!)I was lucky enough to have a jazz song played on the panelDesign Flaws www.taxi.com/vickythebassplayer if interested starts quiet.......I had wanted to meet JC Quintero, because he was representing jazz...and I did get to briefly talk to him afterwards in the middle of the mob, too....his comments...were that he liked the way the rhythms unfolded, and kept him interested...and really liked the sax sound not having to much reverb...they listened 'til the guitar solo...but he didn't say he was blown away.....I kept kicking myself though, because I now realize it would have been better to choose a different song....especially because the room mix would have sounded better with the blistering funk (the sound in the room made a big difference in where you were sitting).....oh well......I don't upset over that kind of stuff...... vtbp

It was very nice to meet you, we didn't get a chance to talk much other than a bit of small talk but I'm sure that will change quickly. You are super sweet and I really like your stuff! You are very talented. Listening to Lamont Dozier talk gave me chills. That alone was worth coming to the Rally.Congratulations on getting your track played. Always like the A&R Listening Panel. I find it interesting listening to what they have to say, I don't always agree but it stimulates me to step up and write something even better, something that will make them jump out of their seats. A few people kinda did it this year, that was pretty cool to see. Maybe next year they'll play my CD...( I'll try payola, hee hee) Now that's something looking forward to. xoxoxoJacqueline

I think back to my first Rally, where I met DaveW at Starbucks for coffee one morning, saw Matto briefly on the last day to say hi, and met JamesM.... but slunk back to my hotel room from time to time, since I was feeling so overwhelmed. It was a pretty big stretch for this shy person to go to the big city of LA for the first time, alone, and attend this major event. JamesM made it so much easier, and meeting & talking with DaveW in person was really neat. Fast forward to 2008, when I talked my face off to 60 or 70 or 80 Dots and many other folks besides.
