Metal Submit

Post by bagnall » Thu Apr 01, 2010 10:04 pm

I Decides I will start writing some new material aiming at the general metal / rock listings but im still getting used to the mixing drums properly and such.

my first (almost finished piece) is on my profile under *Metal 1*

http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... benbagnall

A short piece with a button ending aimed at one of the current metal instrumental listings
I havn't been able to record bass to it yet as my new ones still being delivered , although im not sure if this needs one might just boost the low end a bit
Guitars are tuned to *Drop A*
I'm having trouble bringing out the tom toms a bit. as I went for the slipknot kind of thing with a main drummer and another percussionist / drums. but at the current stage the tom toms just sound like a deeper kick drum (to me anyway)
might end up adding a drum roll or two in places to liven it up a bit.

Over all I think this instrumental is in a stable state at the moment but I'd like the opinion of you guys / gals.

any suggestions / feedback would be nice. does stand any hope at all? I know there isnt a giant sweep picking solo I'm aiming away from that kind of thing

thanks in advance :) and goodluck with composing.

p.s feel free to check out anything else on there

Hi,

Not bad, sounds mostly like a rhythm track. i didn't hear any real melody in there. I'm not sure if it's really really Metal though, It's sort of Quasi Metal, you know? It's like the diet coke of metal "Just one calorie, not metal enough"

Just messing with you

This is good. I think the lead guitar part is hooky, but a bit buried. You might bring it up in the mix. I really like the tune.

Well -
It's nice, not gonna make me jump out of my seat and headband though...
To my ears - here's what's holding it back for now:

1) can't hear a melody.
2) drums are barely there (this is METAL - drums are supposed to be big!)
3) guitar tone is flabby (try heavier gauge strings, or just tune up from A try B)
4) you NEED bass! (think of Metallia - ...and Justice for all... such a shame!)
5) overall volume needs to be louder

Hopefully some of these things help.

Cheers,
Nick
