The Strat is by far the most versatile of the 3.For what it's worth every time I go into the studio with a full live rig I almost always spend up to an hour experimenting with mics and mic placement and different amp sounds and playing techniques before I hit the magic combination for the track. So I don't expect to just plug into a software amp, dial up a preset and make it sound right, for me, either way it takes a lot of tweaking. Actually, if your rig is in a properly acoustically treated room, this should not be much of a problem. You just want to get the mic or mics off axis and about 1.5 ft away. T4, Their are a vast amount of placements and tone -colors/timbres/FX that can be achieved in any space. Treated rooms just eliminate some of the undesireable ones. But nonetheless doesnt subtract from the massive range of sounds to experiment with until you find the right one for the job.

My $439 Fender Mexican Standard Strat stays in tune really well. Stays in tune for days of in studio playing.I was also amazed at the Rondo Fender P Bass copy I got for $120. Thanks to a very strong recommendation from our resident bass expert here on the Taxi forums...BillG.I think that with Chinese factories using state-of-the-art computer-driven machines today, it's not difficult to achieve extremely good fit and finish for VERY low prices. And you can easily upgrade the pickups and other hardware.

Yep, the cheap route to tonal Nirvana, that. I'd swap out the wires and switches and jacks, oh my!-along with the pups, but mebbe that's jes' me. Have a look at the nut and tuning machines if there's a tuning problem, too, but bridge mounting holes drilled in the wrong places seem to be a thing of the past, thankfully. Quality hardware can make a tonal difference, as well.
