Mixing Feedback for Dramedy Listing

Post by aliseashby » Tue Mar 16, 2021 11:15 am

Hi Peer to Peer :)

I am a newbie to Taxi and preparing to submit to the upcoming Dramedy listing S210325DA due March 25th..... as well as a couple of others....due next week.

Being a professional composer & songwriter for many years, up until now, (though I make rough mixes), I've always outsourced my post-production. For efficiency it obviously doesn't make sense for me to do that with all the submissions I am now writing for, so I am now learning to mix myself! (If helpful, I use Pro tools 12 with the East West virtual instrument library)

Please could you kindly give me feedback on this mix....I particularly want to make sure it meets the 'Broadcast Quality' overall and particularly re Loudness Normalization! I sincerely welcome any and all comments be they in reference to my direct inquiry or overall re the listing.

Thank you.

A couple ideas - first, maybe have a few instances of the pizzicato sound going, with different reverbs and pans? They all seem to come from the same place which can get monotonous, especially compared with "Sneaky Snitch". That way you could also make the various melody lines (especially the opening one) clearer.

Also, clarinet in first half seemed a bit too loud to my ears but I'm on headphones so maybe it's more balanced in a room.

FWIW, I feel like the B section melody might be verging on too "sweet" - vs "mischievous". Maybe add a touch of chromaticism to make it sneakier?

Ending felt repetitive to me, would add more variety. There's no percussion or anything and I might add some very light stuff, maybe also subtle doublings with other common instruments (glockenspiel, marimba, staccato woodwinds, etc)?

My two cents,
Mike

Mike,

Thanks for your comments.
I agree re 'sweet' vs mischievous and chromatic additions, as I do re the end and adding variety. So I have added some percussion and marimba....and will lower the clarinet in first half.

Many thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment.
