Modern Upbeat Jazz Instrumental

Post by irthlingz » Fri Jun 25, 2021 3:15 pm

Maybe not modern or upbeat enough? Worth five bucks to try?

https://sharmuse.com/hc.html

MODERN, UPBEAT JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS are needed for several (up to)
$10,000*, Direct-to-Music-Supervisor placements in a range of TV Shows
on Major Networks.

This Music Supervisor is on the hunt for Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the
general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"The Message Continues" by Nubya Garcia

"Vacuum Lessons" by Anatole Muster, daniel hayn, & Tennyson feat. Kiefer & Hadrien Feraud
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIiMGZEmLKk

"Jig" by Fergus McCreadie

Thanks!
Sharon & Michael

Sharon & Michael? This is a mockup? At 2:40 there's a 'pop', then the countermelody enters with a clarinet patch, which becomes a trombone patch after about three notes or so. Please tell me you'd get rid of extraneous MIDI commands before mixing. :)

The chart is plenty upbeat. Doesn't compare to the first ref track, and none of the refs were dixieland. In fact, If I was putting together that playlist, I'd be picking tunes that sound a bit like Chick Corea, in his electrik phase. Got any bouncy, latin-tinged piano?

That was our attempt at a rhythmic element. There are similar "pops" at approx. 1:06, 1:14 and 4:00. Guess we should drop those or use another sound.

In other words, totally not modern enough.

Hi Sharon and Mchael!

I checked out your tune and i think it doesn't sound contemporary enough for this listing.
Could be the instrumentation or the arrangement. Maybe if you stick to one of the reference tracks; you can use the same instruments they use in one of them. (I think the 3erd reference is the one I'd choose)
Also, I'm not sure if the instrument you use in the main melody is appropriate.
You can make an A/B comparison of one of the references......Which one sounds contemporary to you?
Also I think your mix sounds a little unbalanced. Consider A/B'ing against the reference tracks.
Hope that helps

Juan

In the forum tradition of saying something nice first, this track could be the basis for a children's instrumental or lighthearted playful underscore. :)

Save your money, this does not meet the expectations of quality and musical performance needed by Taxi or music libraries in general. Listen to the references and figure out what they have in common. They are all live instruments, they are all outstanding musicians, and the recording quality is polished. All of the musicians have a solid grasp of the jazz idiom.

Michael says it time and time again: "Read the listings carefully."
Please submit well-composed Jazz Instrumentals with great melodies, solid arrangements, excellent musicianship, and tons of great energy. Some Electronic-based instrumentation is okay, but your submissions should be firmly rooted in the Jazz genre. Your production should be top-notch; and if you're planning on using any virtual instruments or samples, they should be polished and fresh, as well.
In your track there is no melody , theme, or song form, the flute-vocal patch is very dated and not genre appropriate, the trombone patch is obviously fake and "MIDI" sounding, and there is not much energy at all.

It is imperative that one reads every word of the listing and listens to the reference files before creating music for a submission.
