More than a pad??? (feedback for RELAXING AMBIENT instrumental)

Post by BrentI » Wed May 22, 2024 12:10 pm

Hi all! I'm looking for some feedback on this instrumental for the following listing. I'm having a hard time with the wording of the brief. "Minimal—to—no—melodic movement." Are they just looking for chords with different textures? Could someone with experience in this style offer some direction? I appreciate it!

RELAXING AMBIENT INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a brand new record Label/Publisher, started by highly experienced industry veterans with long, successful histories. This is an amazing opportunity to get in on the ground floor with an exciting new Company!

This Company is searching for a range of sparse, relaxing Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"Flying: Relaxing Sleep Music" by Soothing Relaxation - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZYbU82GVz4&t=2612s

"Deep Sleep Music" by Yellow Brick Cinema - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaRrq7cYu84&t=2s

"Fall Into Sleep Instantly" by Weightless - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9sR_T76H34

NOTE: Even though the references may have rain, fountain, and babbling brook sound effects, the Label does NOT want them. No SFX, please!

Quoting the Company: "This music is needed for yoga studios, spas, wellness centers, as well as worldwide digital releases on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Youtube, etc. It needs to be VERY simple, and VERY sparse while creating a blissful, relaxing, sleep-inducing, dream-like state for the listener.

We're NOT looking for amazing compositional chops. This is MUCH more about creating a feeling of peace and serenity, as if the listener is wrapped in a warm blanket and letting go of everything around them. Moods can range from blissful, optimistic, introspective (but not so much as to be depressing), wondrous, tranquil, etc.

We’re looking for composers who can demonstrate that they understand that the music serves the specific purpose of lulling the listener(s) into a calm, relaxed state. Musical elements, melodies, and/or production styles that show off the composer’s chops will likely take the intended listeners out of their trance-like state, thus defeating the use and purpose of the music."

Please submit minimalist Instrumentals with a relaxing, sleep-inducing vibe and a peaceful, relaxing sound. Your submissions should have one central motif with minimal—to—no—melodic movement, and tranquil, soft sounds. Instrumentation should be ambient and relaxing, such as flowing synth pads, soft piano, muted keys, etc. Please avoid things like bell tree glissandos, triangles, bells, etc., or other elements that could be jarring to tranced-out listeners. Any samples or virtual instruments you use need to be high-quality.

Please ensure that your submissions remain very SIMPLE, but still maintain a level of artistry and originality. Imagine what you would hear while being hypnotized!

All submissions should be about 2 to 4 minutes long, give or take. Natural-sounding, faded endings and/or non-faded endings are both okay for this request. Do NOT copy the reference tracks in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe.

NOT the expert you're looking for - just some old-guy ears offering an opinion;
the track sounds well done, and consistent with the wording of the listing.
HTH; good luck with it.

Brent, You took the question right out of my head! 2 of the ref tracks have VERY PROMINENT piano lines, what I would call melodies. I guess the brief is asking to avoid 'ear-worm', 'humm-able' lines? If that's the case, I say you've nailed it. See you at the finish line!
