Mr. Charming

Post by carlosgomez » Sat Jan 19, 2008 2:34 am

Hello. So I just joined Taxi a few days ago and made it my mission to offer a few words to other posters material before I posted a tune. I also wanted to see if I could do that before the kit from Taxi arrived in the mail. So far so good. Please offer a critique of the lyrics and song before I send it to Taxi for a custom critique. The song is called Mr. Charming and references our political leaders. I have a sister who believes that the opening piano riff sounds like the Partridge Family theme song. I don't think so.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueMr. Charming - Carlos M GomezSpeedyGeez Studios 2007He looks so cool. Just don't get in his way. He's no ones fool. His best side is on display. His favorite jewel, a handshake a smile and a wave. He wants to rule a sure sign of moral decay. He will lead you but he'll feed you half-truths, pain and some fear. And you will bleed cause to succeed the line forms up in the rear. He's Mr. Charm, don't be alarmed he says he's saving us all. The middle class should watch their cash the free stuff is costing us all.Oh, oh, oh, oh Mr. Charm. Who's crown do you have on? Your words seem to disarm me. Oh whoa oh Mr. CharmingHe looks so cool. Just don't get in his way. His favorite jewel, a handshake a smile and a wave. But he will lead you but then he'll feed you half-truth, lies and some fear. And you will bleed cause to succeed you must believe what you hear.Hey Mr. Charming your words are so disarming. Hey Mr. Charming your words are so disarming but I'm nobody's fool. Hey Mr. Charming your words are so disarming but I'm nobody's fool. You look so cool with your favorite jewel, a handshake a smile and a wave.

Hi Carlos,The partridge family? I don't know. It has been so long since I heard the theme song so I can't remember, but the tune does sound somewhat familiar. I like the lyrics. I wonder who you could be thinking of? There are several names that come to my mind at this time. Oh well, we'll leave that for another thread.Overall I liked the song and thought it had a catchy melody and overall feel. In terms of production I thought the song could use a little work. The vocals seemed a little out of tune at times and I thought the song needed some high end brightness in either the eq or mix. Sounded a little to mid range to me. Some reverb might help brighten things up a little bit. I also thought some of the instruments sounded a little too synthy, especially the synth lead line at 1:23. Maybe some better samples might help. This is just my 2 cents but I hope it helps.Kurt

Hello Kurt. Thank you for taking the time to listen and offer feedback. You are right on the production. I too believe that a lot of my tunes are too middy and need work in the upper and lower bounds. Also I sing cause no one else will. But its fun anyway. I suppose I could put Melodyne to work but I will certainly try to give a better performance.I have though of ditching the synth lead for a guitar lead. It would be easy enough. As far as who the subject matter is..... Well I have found that the song is universal enough that everyone thinks the song was written about their most hated politician regardless of affiliation. I say mission accomplished! ; )Thanks again.
