Sometimes there is a call for an instrumental within a request for songs. There is also a skill to reading "into" the listings. I can't help to think that reading many listings and trying to pay attention to what is forwarded when someone who is forwarded posts a track is also very helpful. All part of the education process. For me the listings are just a starting point to more research on styles and artists. This too falls in the category of "work" (heaven forbid)How much can we expect TAXI to micro manage what we have to do to be successful? They provide a'la information for listings that apparently is extremely under utilized. Again, there is some work involved. ChuckYeah what he said! I will say that it has taken me some time to be able to assimilate the info included in each listing and to understand what is being sought. This knowledge has come largely from reading ALL the listings, submitting and being rejected. Then listening to a forward. "Oh, thats what they wanted!". I am an instrumental writer and have little interest in songs or vocal music. But sometimes they ask for instrumentals in the middle of the vocal/song sections so I read those too. Now I have a bit of a beef when they ask for vocal music in the middle of the instrumental section but tit for tat...I think of the listings like a newspaper. I read the front, the living and the sports sections. In the listings this sort of points to musical trends...Keith

Hi T4MH;I don't read the full newspaper, except, only what I need. What if the news paper was sectioned like the listings, it would serve you just fine. But others needing just certain sections would be very frustrated. Everything most of you don't get is there are only three sections of Interest to any of us, the rest are sub-categories. Taxi IMO has it reversed.Songs (w/lyrics), Country, RnB, A/C, Film & TV, etc...Instrumentals, Film & TV, Games, Country, RnB, A/C etc...Artist - in the style of, Prince, Dmx, Sinatra, Dixie Chics etc....This is just my logic... ------------I just tried this...copy and paste the listings into "Word"go to "Find" and enter "SONGS" in capital lettersin the "Find" dialogue box, click on "more" and put a tick in "Match case"click on "find next"that will take you to the next listing that's looking for "SONGS" ----------------however, I actually enjoy reading the listings. Even those I would never submit to. I read the details of what the industry is looking for. I see how much interest there is in certain types of music, or certain skill levels, etc. To me it's like reading Recording Magazine - I don't understand everything, or I can't relate to everything, but I glean something from it. I go through and cut/paste those things I plan to write/submit for; and I also cut/paste things I might 'experiment' on if I have time ... like a hip hop instrumental or a rock song. So I'm kinda with Chuck on this.Mind you, it could be that as TAXI moves to its planned 2.0 interface, that we will be able to have a database of sorts on our taxi accounts, where we can access listings, sort them as we please, and even ask that we be reminded we want to submit to specific listings. So I think talking about different concerns and issues with how things work is a valuable exercise.Edit - I do get you, greatmoves. Do the "type" first, and then catagorize by genre. Then TAXI would have to ensure listings that call for either songs or instrumentals be posted twice.

I print the whole thing out in PDF format and it takes 5-10 minutes to check which ones may be of interest, make a few notes, etc.No matter how they categorize, there will always be times when it's hard to know which section something belongs in. Scanning a 10-12 page printout for the words "NEW LISTING" doesn't seem like a big deal.Personally I like the paper copy- I can keep it by my computer and don't need to navigate anywhere on-line to find what I want. PS And what if the listing is for BOTH songs and instrumentals?

Hi Hummingbird, nice to hear from you... it's been a long time since we have interacted. respectfully to you, you're talking about a preference, something you just want to do, I also look at other listings. But, on a basic level I just want to see the songs wanted, not all the artist wanted and what not.I dabble at writing in different genre's also, but , "listing 1 oh artist, listing 2 artist, .... listing 10 song ok, this goes on for the entire listing. I have done all the suggested work arounds. That's just it they are work arounds. IMO using the basic categories would be a lot faster... and better serve us members.GreatmovesBB

Like I said, IMO suggestions like this are valuable, and I think it would be great if we could have an interactive database on our taxi.com where we could sort listings as per our personal preferences.

Hey there Great Moves. These listings come out every two weeks and even if you did read every one, which is kind of interesting, it still doesn't really take that much time. These are your buyers after all, right?Seems like skimming shouldn't be the right approach if your interested. Besides, after seeing them a couple of times it's pretty easy to search for the category headings your interested in. But I've seen some things in categories that I've never considered writing for before that did make me think a bit about something I might never have considered.Just a thought.B

Hi, I'm an orchestral instrumental writer. I read every word of the listings. I like looking for typos As others have said, sometimes a listing that appears to be for songs with vocals can suddenly announce "instrumentals will be considered" in the middle... Also, I learn loads about industry trends and popular artists and sometimes listen to the a la's, even if I'm not going to write for a listing. It's important to me. Also as Bryan says, I often find a listing for something unusual and think I'd like to have a go. For instance, once there was a listing for Techno, which is something I had never done, and I gave it a try and it got forwarded. I find the listing are stimulating and thought provoking and keep me "Taxified". GeorgiePS: shouldn't this thread have gone under "listings"

I would just like it in Excel format. That way I could search and sort and all that good stuff. It's coming out of a database anyway, so it shouldn't be that hard to provide in an Excel spreadsheet.
