My 1st shot at Crime & Suspense too

Post by k o star » Sat Apr 18, 2009 3:37 am

This composition is inspired by Bryan & Keith...I caught the CSI bug from them.Didn't even think of giving this listing a shot till I heard their awesome tracks...This is not the end product so I totally welcome all feedback...http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueor track no. 4 on:www.taxi.comPeace,KelNEW LISTING -- CRIME DRAMA INSTRUMENTALS in the style of the underscore for such dramas as CSI and 24, are needed by an East Coast Music Publisher who has secured dozens of Film/TV placements for TAXI writers over the years. He is looking for mysterious and suspenseful styles that "must have a contemporary rhythm section". He'll be looking for shifts in tone, instrumentation and dynamics throughout each piece. He definitely does not want it as hyper-tempo as requested in listing # Y090512ID . He's open to any arrangement or instrumentation, as long as the tone is right. Excellent performances are absolutely necessary. He specifically said he wants to hear tracks that are :60 seconds in length. He doesn't want fadeouts, just clear endings. Broadcast quality is required [excellent-sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three compositions online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, May 4, 2009. TAXI # Y090504CD

Hi there! I think the idea is good, but I would like to hear more tension to it, build it more, throw in some hits and bangs, maybe some dissonant chords and some distortion on the drums perhaps? But, don't overdo it. Keep it like this, but make it harder and with more surprises. If you listen to the tension music in CSI and House, it's more dynamic. It's too long as well, aim for 60 sec when you are doing it 'cause this listing asks for this.

Hey KelNice start here. I don't know alot about the genre but i wanted it to go somewhere faster. Seems like when I do pay attention to these kinds of beds they move around from theme to theme pretty swiftly. I think you have the tone and vibe now just make it go places in a short time period. Easy, huh? Good luck. eo.

Great to see you jumping in on the fun! Been at a festival for the past few days, so just getting back around these parts.I agree with Orest, build more tension over this very cool bed. And I really like the bowed crotale type theme that comes in during the last few bars of this piece. It would be cool to hear that come a bit sooner and to build it out.I was surprised to hear you weren't shooting for this listing from the beginning. You'll be able to kill this kind of stuff.B

Thanks Bryan... Music festival was it?Yup, I completely missed this listing earlier... I think I was confused by the term "contemporary rhythm section", it didn't sound like something I'm familiar with... but after I heard Ur track, I kinda understood more.Cheers for the feedback... will be working on it...-Kel

Hey Kel,I think most supers would say this doesn't go anyplace soon enough, but I think it's so hard to judge without viewing the video that you're supposed to sync to. I guess they could just loop the 4 or 8 bars they like the best over a short scene. Otherwise, you'd need to write to picture to get it exactly right. In any case, it's a good start and I definitely think you can pull this off.Vince

Hey there, just wanted to say first that I dig a lot of your work - I'm new here but I've been cruising the forum for a while. From a production standpoint, I think the percussion needs some top end sparkle. I always like a little room verb on drums too, to liven them up, but that's personal taste i guess. Other than that I think the rest of the sounds are perfect.P.S. I just noticed - you are using Reason?
