My demo with Nashville Demo Studio, Jimi's place

Post by jchitty » Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:52 am

The one Bob Mete was referring to, and I am that TAXI member he was talking about. Well, guess what?Tada....drum roll....I love what Jimi and her studio did with my song. Here's what impressed me about Jimi....her willingness to give me what I wanted. I asked her for song that I could pitch to more pop oriented, modern country, but yet, pitch to more pop oriented listings outside of country. She delivered for me. I wanted to pitch this song to the American Idol competition next year, plus, I want to pitch it the June 26th Rascal Flatts listing, it's a good target for that I think. But more than that, I love the song, she did a beautiful, top notch professional job. Her production is just great, and I'm gonna use her studio come fall (when I get this freakin' IRS thing straightened out, hehe) for two more demos. I'm as pleased as punch with it. Now if I didn't like this, I told Jimi I was gonna be brutally honest about it, but it exceeded my expectations. She really brought my song to life. Her prices were really good too...I got as professional sounding demo than what I paid A LOT more for in other studios. I'd recommend her studio to anyone. Here's the song on my TAXI page...it's called "What's To Be." I couldn't get the play button to work right now, so I put it on download temporarily if folks wanted to hear it that way.http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... d=2572Here are the lyrics too:What's To Be:Verse 1I've tried so many timesTo pick myself off the pavementOf this troubled roadWhich seems to have no endSometimes life has no ryhme Or reason, as the days passAnd I'm back in the placeWhere I've always beenChorus:But what's to comeAnd what's to beWill always remainA mysteryAnd I'm hanging in thereHoping I might seeThe better partOf what's to come And what's to beOh, the better part Of what's to comeAnd what's to beVerse 2Oh, I've had my hopesCome so closeI could feel the winds of hopeBlowing over meBut each time it seemsAll my plansDisappear in the mistOf cold realityRepeat chorus:Bridge:Oh, I've got to hold on for a better futureOh, I've got to hold on for a better life

Hey Janet, this sounds great! The vocalist doesn't sound as non-descript as some demo singers. Matter of fact, the song & the singer remind me a little of Del Amitri & that's a good thing IMO! I wish you luck "climbing over the bar" with this.

Hey chits! This sounds jes great. Kudos to Jimi for a job really well done. I like your lead singer, he's got some presence in it, that's especially nice to hear. But most importantly, this is a wonderful song, nice job, swee'pea.

Great song Chits! It really is flexible for the postings you wanted to target...I'm impressed with how accessible the song is for different postings (both the writing and playing/production). Wow...And thanks for sharing...I'm just scratching the surface of sending a song out to be cut, so your opinion (and great result) certainly add another positive vote for Jimi's place.

Yes Chits, really nice song, best of luck with itJimi's peeps did a real good job. The production is great, drums sound great. Everything is nice and clean and well played, and the singer is good on this song. Anyone paying studios to do their stuff should give Jimi's place a try!Nice job Jimi........and friends!

Thanks, Bill....yeah, this vocalist is distinctive. I was really pleased with him....Jimi told me his name, but the 'ole memories cells aren't working that good today, hehe. Squiddy, thanks so much for complimenting my song and Jimi's production. You know your opinion means everything to me.Steve, yeah, the drums do sound good, and the piece does have a nice clean feel. Thanks for the nice words about the song too. Devin, if you do decide to go with Jimi....I don't think you'll regret it, it's up to you, but I was very satisfied. I'll agree that she made the song versatile enough to pitch to several genres. That's what I was hoping for. I'd just like to add that Squids, Steve Davis and Bill G. are all stellar producers themselves, and I feel lucky to be working with such talented musicians like them. But on my solo times when I don't co-write, it's nice to have a good studio to work with.

Really nice Janet.... through my laptop speakers it sounded like it had a little bit of a George Harrison or Tom Petty feel to it. You struck a really nice balance between country and pop. Were you present during the sessions or did you just send them a CD and let them have their way with your song?Another question-- how long did it take? I'm going to have a couple of extra days in Nashville coming up and wondering if that would be enough time to get a demo done if I schedule it in advance. Thanks,Cameron

Yes, I just sent Jimi an mp3 (or you could send a CD of course) and she worked with that. I used a rough Band In A Box demo, but she was able to get the feel of my song. I do like to fly by the seat of my pants and just tell producers to run with songs (as long as the melody and lyrics remain intact) but I'm guessing the studio will work with you if you need more hands on time than me. It didn't take long at all to get the demo, maybe around two weeks, and it could have taken less, but I didn't book when they had an earlier recording session. I'm guessing that if you notify Jimi that you'll be in Nashville those two days, she might be able to work something out for you.....you might can have your song sooner and in the time element that you'd like. However, I don't wanna speak for the studio, hehe....you never know, they might be really booked heavily sometimes. I guess it just depends on the workload, sometimes you can get a song right away, and other times, it might take 2 to 4 weeks. You could e-mail or PM Jimi and see what she says.
