My Dramatic Orchestrals for Wii(and 1st post ever)
Hey everyone, This is my first post on these boards, and would love any feedback you guys are willing to dish out! I recently submitted these tracks to the following listing....NSTRUMENTAL/ORCHESTRAL COMPOSERS are needed by a Leading Video Game Developer of DS and Wii game titles. They need someone who can write a wide variety of Instrumentals as background music for future video games projects for the Wii game console. Musically, they'd like to hear a scope in style but are very interested in a dramatic, "big" orchestral feel. Many dynamic shifts and tone variation would be advisable, to show your full capabilities. They are looking for professional composers who have experience arranging and are responsible with meeting deadlines. It's also a plus to know the tech side of programming music with video game operations. Not only are they looking for freelance composers, but they are open to hiring you as a full time staff composer if they feel you are right for a particular game project. You must also be a "team player." Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit two to three INSTRUMENTAL pieces online or per CD, include your bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than June 13, 2008. TAXI #Y080613VGI will also be submitting them to the similar one due on June 30th... Anyways here they are and thanks for your comments! (They're rather long, I hope you don't mind!) This first one has an almost middle eastern theme to it. It is constructed to build throughout the piece so make sure to listen to the end...http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... m=trueHere is the second. I tried to contrast the style in the first...http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... =trueJacob

Hi Jacob, well I don't know where everybody is - I can only assume it's gorgeous weather worldwide and everyone's on their boats taking the weekend off...I've listened to your pieces a couple of times. I think they are very beautiful. My overall thought is that maybe shorter would be better and hence getting to the change in tone or build-up quicker. It came to my mind that these would be excellent for New Age type albums. So, more specifically, I felt track one took a full minute to get moving (although there are lots of very interesting sounds in that one minute!) At 2.40 it picks up pace and there's a very nice build up from there. Track 2 I felt had an Irish tone to it. This one doesn't change much till 2.45 when it picks up. Quite a change in tone at 3.24 and I love the harp when that comes in at 4.20. I'm just thinking that in both pieces all of that could be pared down to three minutes each and still show off what you can do very effectively. My 14 year old daughter listened to both tracks too and she was very impressed and thought they would be great for Wii (we don't have one, but her friends do, so she's heard the type of thing they use). I'm putting in two or three submissions for the big orchestra myself even tho I've never heard a Wii. It's hard to know what kind of thing they're going be looking for. I always find after the results are in and people post what did and didn't get forwarded, I am suddenly enlightened as to what they were looking for. Hopefully it all adds to the knowledge and time and experience will give us all a better success rate!!Welcome to TAXI and the forum - I'm sure when the others all return from sailing they'll be here to welcome you! Wishing you lots of luck!Georginasaint

Jacob.... Welcome to the boards! Listened to your pieces... excellent work!! The first one (my favorite) is a nice middle eastern version of a James Bond theme! Good contrasting sections that could play very well in video games... and with the slow build, it reminded me of the Pirates of the Carribbean video game a little (the structure of it, not the instrumentation). And it was a great close for that piece too... very eerie! If that doesn't get a forward, let us know.... because I think the screeners would need to be reevaluated at that point! The second one... it's a little Irish New Age (and I think that might be the strings pad you used), but does have some really strong themes that could work well in some kind of "Legend" type of game. I especially liked the break into the minor to give some more flair, and a little more drama! The only critique I'll give on the second one is that you may want to remix it a bit... seems the strings are a little hot compared with everything else.Hope that helps, and all the best with your submissions!
