My guitar wall is growing

Post by Paulie » Tue Mar 15, 2016 3:15 pm

Taxi TV has been awesome, but I seem to find myself buying things after watching... and I'm not even a guitar player. But, it has been said more than once around here that learning guitar can help you target more cues. Fortunately lots of bargains can be had.
  • Top Right: Cameo acoustic guitar: free from a homeschool swap meet (currently open D tuning: D-A-D-F#-A-D)
  • Top Left Cozart lap steel guitar: $73 on ebay (tuned C-E-G-A-C-E)
  • Bottom Left: Ibanez electric guitar: free at a homeschool swap meet (standard guitar tuning, down a half-step like Stevie Ray Vaughan)
  • Bottom Center: 3-string guitar box guitar: $65 on ebay (tuned D-A-D)
  • Botton Right: 6-string Guitanjo: $100 on Craigslist
(standard guitar tuning)

None of these are professional grade instruments, but then again, I'm not recording Segovia in a top notch studio either. Now, if I could only find a cue that can incorporate all of them. Swamp, maybe?

Yeah looking good! You're going to need a new wall soon, you can never have too many instruments:)
Curious what the green fabric under the strings are?

Old Peaveys, Ibanez and Yamaha Pacificas are a great value. You gotta love a Strat, for a project guitar too, cuz so many parts are interchangeable. The green stuff is a latex foam drawer/shelf liner you can buy in rolls at the dollar store; also good for lining your dish strainer, or under the glassware.

Mojo wins again. The green stuff is kitchen drawer liner that my wife bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I use it to keep the guitars from resonating when I record live audio.

Incidentally, I ordered a Mandolin yesterday, now I need to figure out how to re-arrange the guitar wall. :)

Great thinking on that wall, Paulie. There's so much you can do with those things.
If you just dedicate 5 cues to each per year, that's 25 cues right there. In 10 years 250 cues, not to mention everything in between!

Good post Paulie. I have resisted hanging my guitars because of the string resonance thing... this is a simple solution, while keeping the guitars handy and out of the way... hmm. I have some new studio tweaking ideas.. thanks so much for posting.. and also Danny.
