My new BPM Bars Time Calculator for everyone

Post by Paulie » Fri Apr 14, 2017 12:56 pm

I created this basic Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to help me figure out the right tempo, number of bars, or seconds I need to create a cue of a certain length. Right now this only works with 4/4/ time, I hope to have an update that accounts for other time signatures.

It's quite simple to use, just enter two of the three values to get your unknown value. For example, want to know what tempo you need for 16 bars to fit into 30 seconds? Enter those to values and the tempo cell will give you the answer. Zero out the tool to start over.

Let me know if you find any bugs or have suggestions. I created this on a Mac with a slightly older version of office, I may recreated it a PC since it has a much better version of Excel. I'd like to eventually turn this into a smartphone app (surprisingly I couldn't find one out there that does this).

Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) file is here:

I tried it, but it wouldn't work with my old copy of Office 2000.

You'd think they'd build this into every DAW. Mine can display bars/beats, absolute time or SMPTE. That's usually enough for me, but there are literally dozens of online calculators.
