My Sister in a Chinese Prison?

Post by ernstinen » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:30 am

Wow, when my sister went to teach English in China, I never thought it would get to this.

She just went over for her second year of teaching, but has gotten really ill and has to come back to the U.S. They are threatening her with "breach of contract," and may put her in prison in a day or two.

My wife and I have tried every recourse over the past day, and are staying up late to try and reach the consulate or a Chinese lawyer.

Any prayers or ideas are welcome.

Ern

It's the Chinese gov't that's threatening her with prison time right? Seems to me she shouldn't return. I'm quite sure the U.S. gov't will protect her. God bless her for her efforts, but if that's what she gets for it, maybe her good will is better spent else where.

Hopefully she doesn't have too many attachments over there, property, family etc...

Hope it works out Ern.

Ern

Don't go there.

Thinking of you bud.

Yea, I know. Her first year went alright --- She had more hassles with fellow teachers, most from Australia! It was basically a good experience for ONE year, but why she went back made no sense.

That said, my sis "Cries Wolf" a lot, and is kind of a nut (why else would she live in China?), so I'm starting to think that Miss Drama Queen is into Act II. ;) I'll keep you guys posted!

Thanks for your concern,

Ern 8-) :)

Thanks, elser and everyone! It turns out it was the "State-run" University treatening her, and who knows where that would have led in a Communist country. They backed-off in a meeting, but told her she had to buy her own plane ticket home. So she used her last $$ to buy a non-refudable plane ticket, and THEN the U.S. Embassy calls and told her THEY would buy her ticket home to the U.S.! DOH!

The University finally told her "When you are healthy again, please come back!" Yea, right. --- Her other option right now is Mexico.

Best Regards,

Ern 8-) :)
