My "stab" at "horrific"

Post by melissag » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:39 am

OK, I'm not sure I have this how-to-link-to-the-music thing down but I'm going to give it a try. The tune I wrote for the horrific listing is called "Stalker" and I put it together very quickly. So quickly, that after I burned it, uploaded it, etc., I realized that somehow one of my tones had changed. It is probably more melodic than what the listing really asked for but that's okay because the listing inspired me to work on something that I had a lot of fun writing.http://www.taximusic.com/download/16113 ... mp3STALKER(If the above link doesn't take you to my page, I'm going to be seriously bummed.)

Okay, this is beyond annoying. Here is the link to my page...I think. If you'd like to listen to my horrific submission, it is called STALKER. If this doesn't work, I give up!http://www.taximusic.com/download/161134/Stalker.mp3

If this doesn't work, I give up!www.taxi.com/7shadesofgreenThat link works, it will bring people to your page. For some reason, I can't download your tune, but a streaming link works fine. If you just made the change to your Taxisite (within a couple of minutes of me trying to download) it might need a littel longer before it works. Maybe your preference changes have to get logged into the the system, and become installed, before the download link will work. Kinda like it takes a little while to play your sog from your site, right after you upload it. So try this instead, to get the file to stream, because your download option isn't working, might have to do with the your particular settings on your Taxi Homepage:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueAnd yes, I agree. This stuff is VERY ANNOYING. It should be easier.

I'm going to give you another option, Melissa. Hang on I have to retrieve the link.I'm back. Here you go:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueNo, that's not your song, it's one of mine. But you should copy and paste it. Notice that it has six numbers before &stream=trueSo do all of your songs. When you left click on the green button on your TAXI page, you will see properties. Therein lies your song identification #. Just replace the six digits above with your song's #.That way the song will appear in a listener's media player, but they won't download it. HTHNow for the song. Very dark. Seems right on for the listing, but the mellow instrument (the third one that comes in sound too soft organ like. If it were a piercing piano with a lot of verb or a reed organ very staccato, I would be more on edge. Also the chord at 1:16 is too happy a major resolution for my taste. HTHWig

Hey, thanks, Wig! I appreciate your feedback. And if I am understanding you correctly, I think the mellow instrument you are referring to is the tone that CHANGED on me...ARGH! I might try to fix it and reload it with the hope that it hasn't been listened to by the screeners yet.I sort of hate to admit it but the major resolution was a quick ending. I sort of liked the finality it gave to the piece but you're probably right about it being a bit too "happy" to fit in with the rest of it.Glad to see you were able to get a photo up. It's good to put a face with the Wig. (sorry )

Hey Melissa, finally had a chance to listen to this. I don't think it's a fit for this particular horror listing, but I think it might fit in suspense/action. There is an occasional sense of the mechanical, like the accents at the end, all sound like they are coming in at the same exact second. I'd work to make sure they have different velocities and slightly different start/end times. The actual sounds are very good, it's just manipulating them so they sound 'like the real thing'. I really like it tho.If you wanted to go further with this and add more suspense - I think you need more low end. Echo the string pulses with long notes down an octave maybe with trombone or doublebass, for example. And then add a few high short string stabs maybe. I'm suggesting this because it feels like all the voicings are in the same frequency area - warm & rich, and some low & high will add to what you are doing.Overall I think it's a good composition, those are just my thoughts on how you could make it more suspenseful. It kinda reminds me of something you might hear in a Bond film...HTHHummin'bird PS - link worked for me
