Name Dropping

Post by jonathansorensen » Thu Sep 02, 2010 11:19 am

Hi all,

Quick question: Recently I've been working on generating some internet buzz, i.e. regularly posting to twitter/facebook, etc. sharing some of the ideas from projects etc. I think it shows legitimacy when you cowrite with a well known writer or musician but I'm never sure whether or not it's Ok to post something like:
Just wrote with ____ ______, I really think we nailed this song.

How do you handle that? Do you ask permission? Do you run posts by them a couple of times till they trust you? is that too anal?

I'll give a specific example: I used a singer on a demo, but I'm also a big fan. I almost wrote an excited paragraph and posted and then thought, wait, he may not want any attention as a session singer and . . . I was right. He asked that I keep that persona separate from his artist persona.

Anyway, any and all ideas welcome.

Thanks all,
Jon

I'm generally more interested in building credits than trying to hide 'em, so anybody that works with me is more than welcome to brag about it, if they're so inclined. ;)

My policy is, I don't ask permission to tell the truth, but then again, while I've worked with some people that are well-known in certain circles, such as U. P. Wilson, A. C. Reed, Johnny B. Gayden, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Hassan Khan, Phil Guy and Pinetop Perkins, they're hardly what you'd call rock stars, and surely don't mind the mention.
