Naming songs for music library

Post by tessbmusic » Mon Apr 16, 2012 6:15 am

I just finished this:

http://soundcloud.com/tessbeighton/wanderlust

To submit for this:

LUSH, MELLOW INDIE SINGER/SONGWRITER INSTRUMENTALS a la Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, M. Ward, etc., needed by a Los Angeles based non-exclusive music library that has had many television placements on such cable networks as HBO, MTV, VH1. Your instrumentals will be used to add atmosphere or mood to a scene, so you MUST capture the ethereal and relaxed vibe of the artists referenced. Instrumentation must be REAL, AUTHENTIC, and ORGANIC. NO MIDI. Instrumental presentation MUST be top-notch! Broadcast quality is required (great sounding home recordings are okay.) Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, April 16, 2012. TAXI #Y120416IN

And I'm worried that I have to name it a certain way because it's a music library. I've heard about this kind of thing before but I've never tried naming a piece this way. Does it matter? Should I just submit it as "wanderlust" and be done with it?

Basically, stuff in libraries are ultimately categorized by emotion (in addition to other things like music genre, etc). The main thing with titling (especially instrumentals) is that the name gives an emotion that matches the song. You wouldn't want to take a quiet instrumental that primarily uses harp and flute and give it a title of "Jackhammer" ;)

In this case I think "Wanderlust" is a very good match to the emotion of the music. Kind of a breezy, free type of thing.
