Naming your songs

Post by chuckearling » Sat Apr 10, 2021 8:17 am

Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to submit 5 instrumental tracks for a Taxi listing that is looking for meditation instrumentals. The 5 tracks are similar but have different flourishes added in the different versions. I was considering naming them "Meditation 1", "Meditation 2", etc. Is there any downside to naming them like that? Am I better off giving each track a unique name, or do music supervisors not care about the names of the tracks as long as the music is what they are looking for?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Chuck Earling

Unique names are important. As I understand it names are one of the primary ways supes search for music. Make sure they accurately reflect the mood and genre of the song. It's worth the time and effort.

The 'experts' often say, "MOOD is the clue".
So - YES - cues, as well as with a song: the titles are the first impression - and a key element, as they identify the composition.
Not only is your title very important - but that it matches the emote of the piece; and that information is in the metadata/description.

Name them all with A1, A2, A3 ect so they turn up first in all the searches

Anyway, the name is part of the art, so do it properly. There are many possible strategies for naming, descriptive naming, emotion names, fitting scene names, popular reference names, funny names, intended use names ect. Never ending list..
