Post by frequency » Fri Aug 17, 2007 3:32 am

hey folks maybe you can help here.... Ive been slammin this music together with quick drum loops and keys with the intent of just gettin some musiq out. I understand why they keep callin me out on the drums. The critiques are pretty consistant and theyre askin for more dynamics... m not quite sure what they mean More instuments? or melody variations? or something else?let us know if you got some ideas thanx.the Freaks @ FreQuency www.myspace.com/myfreakspace

Hi frequency. Please forgive my out-of-turn post, as I'm at a place I can't access myspace to give a listen (blocked from this public 'puter). In my experience, as short as it is, dynamics refers to using loudness and softness throughout a song to help 'create/carry a mood' of the song. Crescendos and Decrescendos; builds and ebbs. You don't want to go crazy on dynamics; but you don't want a steady pouding level at the same time. But I found that if I was unsure of what is meant by a using a certain term in a critique, it's best to call TAXI's customer service and ask them. Don't be curt; but rather be courteous. They'll let you know what they meant. My 2 cents worth less than 1...bluezcruizer

Hi Frequency,I listened to your all songs on your myspace and I understand your confusion here, on the dynamics part. Your recordings are very clean, REALLY GOOD quality but it is all 100% the same volume from start to finish. Verse to chorus, what I took as the "hook" are the same feeling of power level (volume) as well. First thing this means is back off any compressors if you think you might be compressing too much then you probably are.Second thing I would say is, add in stuff at parts you realize in your song creation process are suppose to be the more "emotional" parts. Back off the the "filler" parts & verses. Now, they (taxi) are not talking about having the dynamics of a DVD on multi channel playback on a wide dynamic range system cause to a lot of people that is just annoying, You know how when they are whispering ya have to turn it up a notch to hear them then all of a sudden BAM!!! they hit ya with some crap music or a loud part and you are high tailing it to the volume knob on your remote. You have the quality bud, you just need to get more "feel" for the loud to soft, for the conversation of the verse THEN the EMOTION of the hook/chorus. DO NOT go by anything you hear on the radio as that is HIGHLY compressed.
