Need melody for Petty/Harrison/ Wilburys style lyric
I had written this lyric in 09 going for a Tom Petty, George Harrison type feel. It reads to me like something the Wilburys could have done with their harmonies and a different vocals on the verses. Here's the lyric if anybody has any idea's and time to play around with it. Buc
Back In My Day by Mark "Buc" Williams 2009 (ASCAP)
V1
I'm out of touch
I'm out of place
A long lost soul
In the human race
And what was right
Now is wrong
They make me feel
Like I don't belong
(Chorus)
Back in my day
I did things my own way
Now I find
Another place another time
I need someplace to hide
Before I lose my mind
If I could I'd stay
Back in my day
V2
If night is night
And day is day
Why don't we see things
The same way
I guess it's all
Your point of view
I still have faith
In what I do
(Chorus)
Back in my day
I did things my own way
Now I find
Another place another time
I need someplace to hide
Before I lose my mind
If I could I'd stay
Back in my day
Bridge:
You might say I'm a victim of circumstance
All I'm looking for is another second chance
Ride
V3
Who makes more
Who makes less
Who's got the biggest
Who's got the best
Now who is saved
And who is lost
All depends on
What it costs
(Chorus)
Back in my day
I did things my own way
Now I find
Another place another time
I need someplace to hide
Before I lose my mind
If I could I'd stay
Back in my day
If I could only find a way
You know that I would stay
Back in my day

Bucboy. Love your tunes by the way. Hard to even say which is my favourite they are all equally good.
Are you wanting something alt/country/folk but with a beatles/kinks twist to it? I ask because you referenced George.

Re: Need melody for Petty/Harrison/ Wilburys style lyric
Thanks Stuart. Hi Kelil. I used George as a reference more because of his solo work ex., My Sweet Lord, etc., and his contributuion to the Wilburys. When I was writing the lyric it reminded me of something the Wilburys might do or how they might feel. An older group of masters watching the new, future legends come in to their own, with their own style and way of doing things. In the 60's the music was about making a difference and making political statements. Now it's all about the money as far as what is good or not. The lyric hopefully also applies to any and everyone seeing the new come in and their way of doing things fade away. You eventually get to that age when you start to understand what your parents were talking about and how they felt. (Some sooner than others)
I played around with a few melodies but haven't hit on anything I really liked yet.
Thanks for the interest,
Buc
PS- I mainly write country songs, but I do like to explore new areas. I really don't hear this as a country song.

I've got something for it. in its skeletal form it sounds George Harrison/wilburys but when I pass the demo on to you eventually you could ( if you like it ) in the production no problem get it sounding more gritty country 60's pop or whatever style it is you want.
The same happened with my she blew me away track. It's acoustic demo version was very indie/folk.
