Need New Ears for rock song

Post by LesWilliams » Fri Jun 25, 2010 9:00 am

This song is kind of a southern rock tune, titled "Life Is Just A Party".

I did all of the parts on it and mixed it myself. I have it kind of where I want it, but now feel I need new ears to give a listen and tell me where I need improvements.

I will appreciate the comments

Based off of one listen, I would say what it lacks most is a decent Drum track. I think you need to use some more variation in the parts (ie:crashes, rides, hi-hat patterns) to bring a little more energy. The drums are obviously midi-ed so a little more time may help them come to life.

Also, mix wise, I think the vocals are too loud.

Just my 2 cents but I think you're on the right track for a "blues" genre. Keep chipping away!!!

Good luck

Hi, and welcome to the forms. I might suggest losing the first lead break. These days one lead break is plenty especially on a demo. I would just do a turn around and go straight into the next verse. One other thing is the second voice in the chorus is not adding anything to this song. If your going to add another voice I'd consider taking a different line, two voices on the same notes isn't quite working. Consider posting the lyrics too, it makes it a little easier to see the big picture.

I would probably work on this a little more before submitting on a listening. The screeners are pretty tough here.

Thanks fuller and gl. I will redo the drums. I am thinking about bringing in a live drummer to redo the drum tracks. As for the backup vocals I just re checked the tracks and did an analysis to be sure, but for the most part the back up vocals are harmonies of the melody line. They were of course both sung by me, so maybe that is what caused the confusion?

thanks again for the input
