Need your advice on purchase of a guitar.

Post by Kelil » Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:45 am

I've just bought a Martin DCX1RE. it was shipped to Ireland from the states. It didnt come with a Martin Hard case or gig bag though. Is it normal for every Martin guitar not to come with a Case in the bundle of buying it?

Thanks
Stephen

Yeah, unless the product description said you were buying a guitar and a case, you were just buying a guitar.

I had the impression that Martin guitars always come with a case unless it is one of the cheapest Mexico-models.
At least that's what they told me at Guitar Centre in Hollywood last year.

Any Martin guitar that arrives in one piece is a blessing.
I'm jealous and you deserve it.
Have fun with it.
Rich.

He was probably trying to sell you a case. :)

Just a quick aside, last banjo I bought shipped in a hard case, but the fit wasn't quite right and the case itself snapped the banjo's neck. The upshot is that the factory's packing job is good enough to get it to the store, good enough to get it to you, even without the case, which can sometimes be a mixed blessing. FYI, I fixed the case by adding some material to the interior; it was too deep for the banjo, resulting in an upward angle over the case's internal neck support. The case's lid actually snapped off the headstock in transit.

Sadly, today, no guitars come with a case UNLESS it's a selling point. Them trying to get you to buy from them instead of from someone else. STUPID as hell imho, BUT makes sense for those that don't care about buying a case and saves $50-$150 usd. Which any real guitarist knows it nutz.. unless of course it's gonna hang on a wall... I am surprised they didn't warn you of that and try to sell you one... at least at the shipping part where most guitar sellers make a point of trying to sell you a case if they hadn't done so earlier.

Enjoy your new guitar and get a case.. and keep that thing in a proper environment as often as possible. You want the wood to age gracefully... not brutally.
