Unlike most AT mics the 4047 is transformer coupled, so you should get a little extra weight and heft, particularly when working close up, and given that the shockmount is included, I'd consider it the better deal of the two. Having said that, I think I'd go for the multipattern version, since I'm paying for a dual-diaphragm design, already. What's better or best depends on who's singing and where the mic is, but this particular pairing is the opposite of what you'd expect when comparing an AT product with a Neumann; usually the AT is more versatile, but not in this case. The 4047 can be a bit honky, but on the right voice, results can be spectacular; the TLM102 is the better all-rounder. (if you already have a workhorse LDC, you probably don't need it) If you intend to track classy, classic, closeup female vocals, your UA preamp and the AT 4047 should be a great combo.

Thanks guys. Yeah Mojo, I'm looking for something somewhat darker than the ldc I currently turn to (Rode ntk), specifically for a female vocalist I'm working with whose voice is a bit bright in the high mids on the Rode. We'll see, it will be useful for something I'm sure and I didn't break the bank.
Cheers guys!
