New Age-y instrumental

Post by wrdsnmuzik » Mon Dec 01, 2008 8:16 am

Recorded and mixed over the weekend, for the following listing:NEW AGE INSTRUMENTALS that are relaxing, melodic and not too dark are needed by an Austrian Production Company with Major Distribution. Once again, this company needs a fresh batch of fantastic New Age Instrumentals for a comp CD that will be marketed and distributed to European Wellness Hotels. While the tone needs to be very relaxing and soothing, the company would also like to hear some interesting and unique melodic/production approaches. These arrangements should be simple but not stark - full instrumentation, not solo, will be preferable. Instrumentals only for this one, please. Whaddaya think? http://005836d.netsolhost.com/images/Taroche.mp3or "Taroche" on my Taxi site. (blush)

(blush)either I'm out of touch with what new age is - or you are geoff ...this is, to my ears, not even close ... and it's certainly easy listening but to call it relaxing is not exactly accurate. it's got so many dynamic rises and falls that it doesn't seem to ring my bell as something that will work for this listing.it's well played. sounds good. production is pretty in there (tho both guitars are too bright for my taste) .... it's a nice chord progression and has a good build (tho the drums get a little busy on that hat) and to be frank, you're obviously a very talented guitarist ... or whoever played is ... but it's not gonna be on target by my way of thinking ... maybe I'm wrong, maybe new age has gone organic and pop oriented ... hell, I dunno ... I really don't dig the whole vibe of what it is they're asking for. it bores me to tears - and I think it's supposed to. but yours isn't that. on one hand, that's good. on the other ... well ....is that the feedback you wanted? cus that's all I got and I just figured nobody else besides dave (and he apparently found it before your brain fart faded) had hit up on this thread so I would.I have to go now. my dentist called and asked if I had any rap rock he could buy from me that he could play in his surgery room. I gotta get busy and throw some samples together from the susie and stefan show.
Gave up guilt when I left the ol' school girl uniform behind. You know, cute little skirts and knee socks, nuns and rulers and all that.

That's better Geoffrey! Nice tune.I find the guitar picking in the background a little overpowering and distracting.Maybe drop it back in the mix.I don't think it needs to be there all through. It is relaxing and soothing!Nice one,Dave.

well thanks to you both for replying. kinda surprised I haven't gotten much attention, and this is one I'm proud of.cj, I take your point about how this may be off the mark, listing-wise. it's an interesting view, that the tune is too busy and not soothing, and one I honestly hadn't considered. the problem is defining what the hell 'new age' means these days. I think of it in a broad spectrum, including everything from spacey synth to quiet contemplative jazz (like good ol' shadowfax, a big influence on this tune). dave, interesting that you DO find it soothing, as I do, and I take your point about the picking level . . I think that's a personal judgement call, and I did make sure to back the level off as the tune progressed . . . but I hear ya!and thanks for listening, guys.
