New Christmas listing -- instrumentals only?

Post by shanegrla » Sun Jan 15, 2012 12:43 pm

There is a new Christmas listing that came out in the latest listings. I'm just not entirely clear if they're looking for instrumentals only. They're asking for pop/rock covers of public domain songs a la "Jingle Bells", "Silent Night", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," etc. -- all songs with vocals.

But then they go on to say "Please submit one to three instrumentals."

Am I right in assuming they just want instrumental versions of the tunes?

ROCK/POP COVERS of PUBLIC DOMAIN CHRISTMAS SONGS a "Jingle Bells", "Silent Night", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," etc., needed by an established and successful Music Library for placement in advertising and Film/Television. They want to hear instrumentals of PUBLIC DOMAIN SONGS ONLY. Make sure your cover is PD (some examples of songs that are NOT PD: "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "Frosty the Snowman," "Little Drummer Boy," etc.) Remember, your music will be used to add energy, atmosphere, or emotion to a scene, so keep your arrangements and vocals focused and compelling. This is a semi-exclusive deal whereby you can still sell your music on iTunes and outlets such as CD Baby, etc., but the Music Library has the exclusive right to pitch your instrumentals to film and TV. They offer $125 upfront compensation plus 40% of the licensing fee. You retain 100% of the writers share. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine.) Please submit one to three instrumentals. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, February 27, 2012.

I wondered that too. But down in the listing it says "vocals focused and compelling" so must be both. Maybe :?

I'm also questioning this listing. I was thinking strictly instrumentals of public domain Christmas songs until I read:
vocals focused and compelling
Are public domain songs with vocals being considered for this one also?

Thanks. - Roger

Good to know I wasn't the only one confused here.

So I actually put in a call to Taxi about this and someone is going to get back to me when they get it straightened out. When they do I'll be sure to post it here, so stay tuned. . .

OK, I just got the word back from Taxi that this listing is open to both songs and instrumentals. So there we have it, straight from the source. 8-)

Happy recording!
