New Guitar Tremolo System

Post by bucyboy » Wed May 26, 2010 6:31 am

I posted this same info under the gear thred. I am posting it here because this is being used a lot in the studio's on productions.

I had to post something about my buddy's new invention. Joe Folmer, a long time musician and guitar tech that I use to jam with in high school invented this awesome new guitar tremolo system. Some of the major players are just now finding out about it and are really loving it. Unlike the old style trems, if you break a string this stays in tune and you can do unbelievable up and down bends on it. It's called the StepMax Trem System. Kerry Livgren of Kansas says he loves it and he ordered a second one. I told former Taxi member Jay Buchannan about it and he told his buddy guitarist Johnny Hiland from Nashville. Joe and his partner Keith built Johnny a custom plate for his Ernie Ball guitar with custom inlay.

I want to mention that I do no get any commission or anything what-so-ever for promoting this, I just love the fact that my long time friend is starting to get some recognition for all his years of hard work developing this. If you'd like to check it out go to:

Hi Keith, yea it's a cam system. My buddy Joe came up with the idea and he teamed up with a skilled machinist he knew named Keith. The two of them literally dumped everything they had into this. I believe they now have a third, silent partner, that owns the fabrication shop where they are being made. These things are really well made and they are currently trying to make them look a little prettier. They perform excellent, but some of the performing players would like to see them get a face lift. They came out with a cut-away model that looks a little sharper. As far as use in the studio goes, they sound fantastic and are really kickin' ass.

I just wonder what it "feels like". Smooth like a cam operated Kahler or rough like a Floyd Rose? Or can it be set up to do either? I'll have to try one out sooner or later! I don't care what they look like!
