New guy!

Hello there.

I am Eirik Berge Jensen from Oslo, Norway. Since forever, I have been writing music but never earned a dime (or "krone" as it´s called in Norway) of it.

Here is my Bio from taxi.com:
- Educated in Philosophy and Political Science.
- Worked for extended time as technical writer/content manager.
- Re-educated as Fictional Director (Film/TV).
- Worked as Location Manager on several Norwegian film productions.

For the last couple of years I´ve been aimlessly wandering about, not knowing where to proceed with my life.
The I found Taxi, that seem even to good to be true.

Made me speed up production. I have a goal to make 2.5 minutes of music every day, but from nothing to every day seems like a tall order.
As of from today I will start to follow the requests from Taxi, not just jot down what ever is in my head after the days first coffee.

Don´t know if I can make a living out of this, but I will give it a go. Eat, sleep, produce - that shall be my life from now on.
A little bit intimidated by you guys with hundreds of songs already in libraries before making half a salary, but I shall try not to be scared stiff.
At the same time - the prices here in Norway are a lot higher than most other places, so we will see

I planned to attend the rally, but my ex-wife already made plans, so I have to be with the kids that weekend.

Been jotting about this forum for the last couple of days and it seems like a pleasant place. Looking forward to the rest of my stay here.

Hi Erik, it's good to meet you.

Don't kill yourself trying to reach a goal like "2.5 minutes per day." Consider something like 2 hours (or more) of composing/mixing/whatever... every day. And just be happy with whatever comes from it. Working a steady block of time like this at a regularly scheduled time of the day will produce the best results. You won't feel pressured to produce a certain amount of music, and you will find that you will become very productive through this constant and steady pace.

I am not currently working with anything else, so two hours will leave me just hanging around for the rest of the day, and that´s not good
Besides I kind of get in "the zone" when I start, so two hours will seem like two minutes.

However, I am not that strict with the 2.5 minutes rule. Last week I worked 24/7 with recording and production of the "Razorblade"-songs, and had to let go of the rule.

The week before that I tried to make a EDM song, and I haven´t done that in 15 years, so I had to study the genre. So I spent 3 days producing the aforementioned minutes.

So, I have the 2.5 minutes rule as a baseline, but am not that strict administering it.

That's cool... Yeah, when you're "in the zone" and the music is flowing there's no need to stop... though when you do stop to take a break you realize how simultaneously exhausted and invigorated you've become.

I was coming at it from the standpoint of someone with limited time. (like me) But you still need to commit to a specific time of the day to sit down and crank it up. The subconscious (or muse) really likes to be on a schedule.

I know. I have to be careful with my ears, mixing for a long period of time.
I try to mix at low volumes, but then again the fan of my macbook (I think) exhausts my ears/brain considerably.
