New Mac Suggestions?

What's a better choice - a single quad core 2.66 Mac Pro, or a dual quad core (i.e., 8 core) 2.26 Mac Pro? Would the single quad core's slightly faster processor give it any performance advantage over the 8 core? Or are the processor speeds less significant than other factors?

For music and video apps, (and running virtual instruments, in particular) more cores is mo' betta than faster processing speeds; this, because RAM is allocated per-core. This might not be the case, in a fully 64-bit environment, though. (and y'all might want to check my work; my beanie hat doesn't have a propeller on it)
