New old stuff . . .

Post by billg » Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:33 am

I recorded this for a listing outside of Taxi for this specific song. I figured I might as well try to get maximum use out of it and submit it for the current Taxi listing for covers of familiar Motown & R&B, although the listing specifically says comtemporary sounding so I'm guessing this isn't going to be "now" enough for the listing. It seems I'm never forwarded if the word "contemporary" or "current" is in the listing. Guess I'll never learn . . . it's just five bucks , right? Here's my cover of The Supremes "Baby Love"http://www.billgaunce.com/song/8

Wow guy how much fun is this? It sounds like Baby love by the Rolling Stones. Real cool if they don't forward it I hope they get as much enjoyment and have as much fun as I did listening to it.Take care my friend mB

Bill.... That intro really blew me away! And that little breakdown section was imaginative and unbelievably cool (as was the end). And I'm going to shock you here.... this sounds CURRENT to me. *gasp!* You took a very bubblegum song and scuffed up the edges, threw in some distortion and cranked it up to 11. Now, while the melody is the same familiar tune, it sounds to me like you beat everything with a sledgehammer down in your workshop and created something inventive, interesting, fun, fresh exciting, invigorating, and a bunch of other really good words like that... oh yeah, and hip! This is a forward to me dude.... you nailed it. Pony up the $5... it's totally worth it.

hey bill--i saw the title on 'jam, but didn't listen, i was looking for something else (sorry), anyway, yeah the intro is cool, short and to the point, but i'm more personally impressed with the updated version of the whole package, a GREAT SONG--damn do i still dig the supreme's, because the basic music is so damned good, i'm surprised more quality covers are not done from their stuff-- but hell, a great song is just what you just repro'd. ok, "your" baby love: --i think it IS CONTEMP enough man..., of course i'm usually wrong..LOL...--one thing i'd like to hear is a slightly better mix, your vocals are always so cool, and you've got the "bill" voice on, not petty or dylan (i KNOW you don't try, just the tune...), which i've told you before is quite quite cool enough just on the billg lonesome.... hope you aren't done with this mix, as i'd love to hear your vox more out front and a bit clearer, but hell, still way cool, "baby.."love,wh

Submit it. I don't know if it's current or not, but it's really good. A very interesting interpretation. Excellent!Dean

thanks everyone! Zoom I hope you're right about it sounding current. Most of the time I honestly can't tell. I'm always listening to new stuff & thinking 'hey, that sounds just like (fill in the_______ from the past)'. That's what happens when you blow out to many b-day candles- I've put my $ on it so we'll see what happens.
