New To TAXI-I would appreciate some feedback about my songs

Post by adamrandy » Tue Mar 06, 2012 5:41 pm

Hello Fellow Songwriters,

I am an up-and coming singer/songwriter in the Baltimore area and just put out my self-titled debut CD (self-released) in December. I am in the process of getting my music out there and will soon be performing locally/regionally, and hopefully beyond. My style of music would be classified as acoustic, soft rock/pop, or AC/MOR oriented, with a retro feel.

My producer told me about TAXI and encouraged me to join, and pitch my songs as a songwriter and artist. I read all about the services offered by TAXI, and am considering signing up. My main concern is whether my style of music might fit what TAXI screeners/listings are looking for. I will admit that most of my songs are influenced by 60s/70s/80s artists, and that I do not write with current trends in mind, nor follow today's artists.

I would appreciate some feedback about my songs and prospects, including if you think TAXI might be a viable way to get my music heard, considering my style and sound.

Here is the link to my website, where you can hear song clips from the new CD, see pics, bio and more:

In addition, I have posted a couple of songs on YouTube:

Anyway, thank you for your time and consideration. Again, any feedback would be appreciated (please post here or contact me at my site). I look forward to your replies!!

Sincerely Yours,

Adam Randy

Hey Adam, nice sounding tracks, what I checked out. I was a little confused in trying to run your 'player' but I'm not the most savvy guy around.

Anyway, it was refreshing to hear the sound of your song(s)...they don't mix 'em like that these days. UBER-compression on the vocals, for instance, is currently the name of the game. Your record sounds a little 'Mamas-and Papas' ish, part of what I hear as refreshing I suppose. (I noticed the flangey/honky tonk piano on one cut, sort of reminiscent of Daryl Dragon's style in the '60s!) Then again I'm a bit of a curmudgeon about the sounds of modern records. Everybody's falling all over each other in pursuit of 'current' sounding, when to these ears 'current' is a rather offensive sonic assault, and very tiring to the hearing.

You should keep writing, definitely, and maybe think about taking your lyric sentiments to a deeper level of intensity...'go further in', I could say. (Without delving into the lyric much at all...just a quick first impression!) There is likely a film or TV show that could use songs like this, so keep pushing and keep writing! Good luck!

Yep; well-mixed, much more open and dynamic than a modern one, but it fits the music and subject matter, with a bit of a British Invasion vibe. (maybe it's the hanclaps) Very nice. :D
