New to Taxi
Hi All,
Just wanted to briefly introduce myself and start getting involved in the conversation. I grew playing in bands and got into recording in my late teens. Gave up the dream in my 30s and went back to school and now I sit at a desk most of my days. I’m not complaining, it’s good gig and I like the people I work with.
I started getting into instrumental sync/licensing about a year and half and fell in love with it. I’ve had moderate success getting into libraries, but no placements yet that I’m aware of. I joined Taxi a few months ago hoping to make more contacts and just learn more about the business in general.
I’ve had one forward out of four submissions, so I feel like I’m off to decent start.
I was wondering if anybody had advice on which genres of instrumentals I should focus on. Has anybody had more success on getting forwarded in one style more than another? I tend to do a lot of electronic stuff, but I feel that style might be pretty saturated and would like to change it up a bit.
Thanks,
Don

Re: New to Taxi
Hi Don!
Congratulations on getting a forward after only 4 submissions. That's a great start. If your strengths lie in electronic music, you might consider collaborating with some members that could use your expertise. A lot of good things have happened within the Taxi community due to collaborative efforts.

Re: New to Taxi
Greetings, and welcome.
Instrument cues is not something that I do, but: while attending a local NSAI meeting that had 2 "industry" guys hosting a listening panel -
when they were asked "...what's really hot right now?" both of them answered & agreed:
"Instrumental cues for Hip-Hop and 'good old Rock n Roll'...are highly requested."
Now - how that relates to the plethora of Taxi listings, you will need to sort that out; and participating on these Forums boards should be helpful.
Hope that helps;
Cheers.

Re: New to Taxi
Thank you all for the input. The music licensing world is pretty foreign to me. All advice is greatly appreciated. And yes, LamarPecorino, I’d love to get involved in some collaborations with other Taxi members.

Re: New to Taxi
Welcome Don. Find a genre you do well and pump out a bunch of cues in it. Good luck.
