Thanks for the welcome and your input Orest. I used Symphobia's brass ensemble for this. It's all played live so the velocities are definitely humanized, however I understand what you mean. What would you suggest I do about the brass? I'm trying to capture a grandiose and fanfare-like quality for the staccato parts.

Sounds good man.
I don't know who the composer's were, but it sounds like a track from Unreal Tournament 2004.

My suggestion is that you play it with dynamics, some notes softer and some stronger. I think you will get a big sound from it anyway. It's really difficult to handle the orchestra instruments well, I struggle with this myself.OmniPsyence wrote:Thanks for the welcome and your input Orest. I used Symphobia's brass ensemble for this. Hi Cory and welcome to the forum! We'll soon welcome you to TAXI too!!
There were no issues with your track opening up for me.
As far as your request for input goes... very nice sounding. Clean. If that's your "home studio" then you definitely meet the "broadcast quality requirements" that TAXI demands. Regarding compositional input: Your sounds (based on your track) are great. Obviously, I don't know how diverse your sounds are going to be for other musical situations but it would seem you "got it going on"!
The problem with that is... that's only 50% of the fight at TAXI. The other 50% is how well you interpret, compose and fulfill the listing requirements.
I'm still learning. The good thing here is this. The TAXI people here at the forum are extremely gracious and willing to help if you ask for it.
Good luck...

Direct links to hosted MP3s have been causing some very odd behavior in my browser, (Google Chrome) as well; I think what's supposed to happen is the track opens and plays in a hidden windowbehind the original , but sometimes it opens in another tab. Occasionally the tab/window stops responding to input, and occasionally one tab or the other gets stuck. Refreshing the tab usually clears things up, but of course the song restarts from the beginning. I'm seeing this with commercial sites/music examples, too; (Native Instruments' site, for one) can't tell if my browser's broke or the web, heh.ottlukk wrote:Cory: I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I tried again. Got some pop-up box, asking me if I wanted to do whatever. Whenever I see these boxes, I press the "X" to delete, because I'm worried about viruses. In your case, your tune all of sudden popped up. Frankly, by this time, even though the first several bars sounded good, I was too ticked to listen further. My point here is that your link, somehow, has a flaw. If you are wondering why you're not getting any responses, well, here you are. I'll repeat: people here will respond to you. Please repost on the peer to peer forum, and see if your link works any better. My best wishes to you.

Enjoyed the tune, though, Cory, and welcome to the forum!

Re: New user curious about Taxi
I believe the problem is from the media players people have installed, like Windows Media player, Winamp, iTunes, Rhapsody, Real, etc, and the respective ActiveX programs for these programs. The settings allow these players to run automatically once a link is clicked that supports the audio format, but it has been known that multiple versions running, or non-responding activeX software could cause conflicts. I think its like 2 or more of these controls try to play the file at the same time and the computer gets confused. Also more problems arise from having many browsers with these controls installed since each one has its own config file on how it runs the software.mojobone wrote:Direct links to hosted MP3s have been causing some very odd behavior in my browser, (Google Chrome) as well; I think what's supposed to happen is the track opens and plays in a hidden windowbehind the original , but sometimes it opens in another tab. In addition, I would make sure you have the latest Java installed.
Deleting Cookies can help too.
Anyways, the mp3 opened a tab up in Google Chrome and played without a problem here, and in IE, it popped open WMP without a problem as well.
Hope this helps.

Hi Cory,
Welcome to the TAXI Forums!
Cool stuff you did on Soundcloud. What kinds of sample libraries are you using?
Hope you join TAXI as well. We have learned so many things since we became "non-stop" members in 2001. Sometimes the critiques can break your heart, but the good ones will send you over the moon, so it's a balance!

Wow, thank you very much for all of your kind words and warm welcomes. I'm very pleased to have found this community, as well as the Taxi service. I will try to become more active on this forum and contribute as much as I can, and share what little experience and knowledge I have with others if the occasion arises.
