Hi Ken,

Nice to see you round' these parts of the internet too! I hope you get many forwards and deals for your music with Taxi. It would be well deserved!

When I write you back, please remember that I am just an aspiring writer and composer, and without the artist background that you have. So you may be a newbie on an Internet forum but you are way more well rounded as an artist. So, this is just another listener opinion.. and Im somewhat biased by having listened to your work (and bring that with me when listening), now at least for a couple of months too, and from the fact that I review from your backyard (in Denmark), so to speak.

To your specific bullits:

Is lyrics OK?
I think this lyric is on the poetic or abstract side to submit for general singer/songwriter listings, but it would have to depend on the particular listing (like everything else with Taxi). As far as I remember this is very much your style, and you are able to put so much emotion and create a vibe with your voice, that it seems natural. This can be a sword of Damocles for you, as your stuff sounds great as an artist, but might not be overly commercial IMO. I belive the poetic qualities can work better for some tv/film submissions (especially epic stuff), allthough I think you'll have a lot better chances if you submit your works as instrumentals, and/or team up with a good lyricist (with english as first language). Another route is of course to be signed as an artist, in which case anything I say doesn't matter if they like you (I might just babble anyway..) :D

Can this song stand alone with just guitar?
I believe so. I've never heard a song from you that didn't have excellent guitar playing and vere arranged really well. Those skills of yours can hold it's own against anyone IMO.

Should I have someone else singing it?
I think so, but Im biased by recognizing the danish dialect that's in there. I've seen many complementing your voice, and the reality check will is when you start submitting your songs. I would say, though, even if you get good critiques on your voice, test the reception with singers on too. That's the only way you'll really know.

How is the mix?
I think it's excellent! I believe your instrumental skills, your composing and arranging skills and your mixing skills will take you a long way when it comes to forwards and deals. Your weakest side would be lyrics and the dialect in your voice (your singing voice are excellent, though).

I think, and this is just my opinion, you may take things to a whole new level if you team up with a great lyricist and start using pro singers on your work.

Hi Magne,
I really appreciate that you have taken your time to write this precise review.
Your two cents are worth a million to me - Thanks!
Your response are razor sharp and like a man
who left his doctor with a deadly diagnosis
I'll take my time to swallow it because it all makes sense to me.
Your advises are gold to me and I will indeed act accordingly.
I listened to some of your music... good country
and I'd be happy to follow you to Nashville.
It may soon be time for a new viking-invasion(-:

Wow

James Taylor sounding guitar:) Awesome tone. Is that a martin?

Just a tad too much bass.

Your voice works very well here. Right mood and delivery. I still think one can sing there own tunes better. Even sometimes when there might be more appealing vox out there.

I never listen to lyrics or story too much, so I won't comment. Universal is important though.

Nice to meet you and what a great start. We will be expecting great things from now on :o

sincerely

Paul

Fantastic! Your voice and accent really makes this shine. Don't change a thing. Also, the lyrics are top notch, in my opinion. This should be pitched to film/tv...not another artist. Another artist would ruin this song. It is perfect for you, and only you. It might take a couple of years, but you should have no problem placing this song in a movie or tv show. Loved it! Can't wait to hear more of your stuff.

Accent too bad? I don’t know. Personally I like it and think it’s interesting. Depends on the project, I guess. I’m not an expert, nor am I making a living making music. So I don’t think I’m authorized to judge. Just speaking from experience. I co-wrote a song for a particular TV show on a major network. A friend of mine sat in the room with the VP as he listened to it and he loved the song except that the singers accent was too noticeable. By the time we changed singers, the opportunity was gone. The same version that was turned down with the network was also rejected by taxi. When we submited the new version with someone who sang the lyrics more clearly, it was forwarded twice by taxi and one of the forwards lead to a deal with a music library. It wouldn’t hurt to a have a few different versions, including just an instrumental. Have another instrument, such as piano or something else playing the melody line lightly. I'm learning there's a pretty big market for those sort of instrumentals. Plus, it makes room for more options for placement. I could definitely hear it in a movie or on TV and wouldn’t call it “too personal” for either of those. But I don’t hear too many songs on TV with heavy accents. Just my opinion :D

Hey Ken

Nice song, the guitar sound's great. I'm a big fan of acoustic when it is recorded well.

Like the vocal too

Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot!
Actually I have asked pro singers to sing some of my songs over time
and the answer has been that they could or would not because the lyrics were too personal.
I'll follow your advise and submit these kind of songs to film/tv listings.
Thanks for your uplifting words(-:

Hi Paul,

Thanks and yes the guitar is a Martin D-35 from 1974
I'll take down the bass a bit when mixing this one.

Thanks again.

Thanks Greggo for taking your time to explain me those things.
I understand that instrumentals are good to have on all the songs too.
And that is easy for me because I make them all in my home studio
and I have backups of everything.
But I guess that it comes in when a cantact is establised?

Thanks again
