NI'S KOMPLETE 5 IS...
SMOKIN'!! 11 virtual instruments in all! I've been playin' around with these things since I finally got it authorized to work on my computer this afternoon. Just waaayyy too many synths & sounds to go thru in a day. The Akoustik Piano plug-in sounds great! The Electrik Piano plug-in sounds awesome!! (I've known about this one for few years now, so I knew it was GOOD). Battery 3 has some slammin' drum kits! Haven't gotten around to Guitar Rig 3 just yet, but that'll be next. Everything else is basically sounds and synths galore!! The arpeggiators in some of the plug-ins are just totally off the hook!! And the samples themselves are just flat out awesome! My Tannoys have had quite a work out today! Too much to handle anymore today. One thing is for certain, you won't run out of sounds & things too soon with this bundle. There will always be enough there to get the creative juices flowin' that's for sure. I-468

Garrett,The orchestral sounds in Kontakt 3 are good. Of course you'd be dealin' with the actual samples of every instrument, so in some cases you may need to spread some samples across the keyboard or load up several instances of samples depending on how high or how low you go with the notes you're playin'. You know how some things sound less than realistic depending on where you strike a note on the keyboard. But aside from that, the samples are quite good IMO, and there's plenty of 'em. Takes an active imagination to utilize alot of 'em. But there's a little somethin' in there for just about every scenario. Good soft sampler. Worth the investment. As far as composing an orchestral score, I don't know, lotta nice sounds, but seems like a lotta work. I use EWQL Silver & Gold for orchestral stuff, and that's a good deal of work in & of itself. So, I don't know about the orchestral side of Kontakt 3 in that respect. I've never tried to write an orchestration using Kontakt 3. More than likely, I would use it to compliment EWQL from the orchestral side of things, but I haven't even had to do that yet. So I really can't say if it would suit your needs or not (orchestrally that is). I'd say if ya' wanna write big orchestral scores, go with EWQL. If you just need some orchestral sounds to lay down for r&b or hip hop or even rock tunes, etc... than this should work fine. HTH.I-468

Hey Ibz,I dunno man, I wasn't too keen on the Akoustik Piano sounds in the Komplete package... just sounded lifeless to me, maybe I'm just being overly picky... but the rest of the package is awesome, I love Massive, NEVEr once used REAKTOR - it scares me - any clue what it does?

Reaktor is another synth and effects unit, but with Reaktor you can acutally build your own synths and effects or you can upload any of the dozens of synths/effects that users post on the NI website. There are tutorials on how to build the synth in the manual and online, but it gets a bit more involved than I really need so I haven't attempted any of my own. People who produce more techno and dance are into all the sound design capabilities. Reaktor does have some stock synths that are great though and easy to use. And I think the Akoustik Piano sounds are pretty good, but I don't just rely exclusively on them. What is everyone else using for piano sounds?

Perhaps incorporating it in a song would bring some life to it. It's got enough dials and knobs & things to use to manipulate the sound, so I don't know.Quote:NEVEr once used REAKTOR - it scares me - any clue what it does?I only played around with it once. To me, it looks like another complicated synth/sequencer/electronic gadget that ya' hafta' spend time tryin' ta' figure out. Could be extremely useful, but I don't have the time ta' figure it out right now. I tend to work with the more simple programs, the ones that don't require you ta' be a "rocket scientist" to figure 'em out. What is everyone else using for piano sounds?Yeah, I think so too. I use the piano that's available in the EWQL Silver library, and I think there's one in Gold too. I have Reason's Piano refill collection, but haven't used it just yet. There's a few different ways I can go these days. Usually I go for whatever is available, and loaded up and ready ta' go at the time. Now that I have Akoustik Piano available in the Muse Receptor, I may lean towards it more often. Just depends on which way my work flow is going at the time. Computer vs outboard gear. I-468

Re: NI'S KOMPLETE 5 IS...
I find that TruePiano is pretty decent - to my ears it's better sounding that the Akoustik Piano, but that's just my opinion I've heard awesome things about Reaktor and would LOVE to dig into that bad boy - but now it's about finding the time to sit down with it.There is an effect that I'm trying to find out how producers/composers to do this, I'm gonna try and find a song, I have been told Reaktor can do it - but I have no clue how....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wr50NZIB1gLINKIN PARK - IN THE END around 1:28, where he sings Property, It's a repetition effect...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYV_YUudHv4TEDDY RILEY - this one is more effective and you can hear more examples. I'd LOVE to know what vsts he uses to achieve this effect. If anyone could help...Sorry to hi-jack the thread Ibz... I'm just really keen to find out how to achieve that effect.
