Those major label songs with brand names in the lyrics may be "paid product placements", and part of tour sponsorship deals.

In the old days, you had to write the song, get a hit, and THEN open a chain of restaurants with the song's title:)

Oddly enough, even tho brand names are mentioned - those brands (including Eastwood) are SO universal that they really do paint a generic picture (though of course Pepsi is never going to use that song). It's almost like the way Band Aide lost its trademark protection because the name got used so much to represent a more general thing than just their own brand. Here's a whole list of things that used to be known as brands, and now we just know them as generic things (like bubble wrap).
