Noob cues for your review - dramedy and alt rock

Post by toddgill » Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:33 pm

Hey, everyone. I'm pretty new to the concept of a cue and have been listening, reading and listening some more. I just joined the forum and am still learning my way around, but I can tell I'll be spending lots of time here and in the forwards section (which is fantastic). Looking forward to learning and contributing!

I've just completed some of my first (non-piano) cues and would love some feedback.

This one is for the current, ubiquitous "sneaky" dramedy orchestral cue:

I think the dramedy piece is presentable but the alt rock track sounds a bit more what I'd refer to as 'power pop'; too well-executed to qualify as "alt", "punk" or "indie", IMO, but it's very well done.

Nice work. I think you have a good shot with the dramady piece. I'm not familiar enough with the alt-rock genre to comment on it. Good luck!

I am also trying out for the dramedy (first time) and I think your piece sounds fine. Might be a bit too repetitive, though, in the first half of the piece -- all strings and not much else? Maybe put the melody in another instrument after it's been repeated in the strings?

However, what do I know? I haven't had one of these accepted myself!

I dug the Alt Rock track. Also snooped around a bit on your Soundcloud page and really liked "One Time" and "South Northwest". Good work!
