This listing did appear as a Dispatch in order to get the label an immediate batch of songs to listen to, so if you already submitted to D080829CO you may want to submit different material for this one. GREAT songs that say something unique, touching, meaningful, compelling, etc. are needed. All tempos will be considered but mid to uptempo will be preferable here. A slightly Traditional approach is okay for this one, but the overall sound should be current. Conversational lyrics that tell a story, draw the listener in and "grab" with the hook will attract the most attention here. We'll need to be really selective for this one, so PLEASE send in great sounding Demos and most of all... make sure the songs are fantastic! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than October 13, 2008. TAXI #S081013COSCREENER'S COMMENTS:Some clever lines but song is overly contrived and the imagery of poker/cards far eclipses the story of the relationship and doesn't pay dividends from an emotional standpoint.(Does this person even LISTEN to country music? Other than Carrie Underwood on the POP station)?RESULTS:Music 6Lyrics 6Marketabilty 6Arrangement 6Production 6 (Hired Grammn Nominated Producer)Engeneering 7 (Hired Grammy Nominated Producer)Musicianship 7 (Hired all Nashville A Players)Lead Vocal 6 ( Superstar Buddy Jewell On Lead here)OK So maybe it wasn't BUDDY'S best effort on this song, but he screener gives him 6's and 7's on ALL my songs. LOL I'm going to relay this to the NASHVILLE STAR WINNER LOLWill re-write and tweak.I'm just laughing at the screener's comment.

TALKING OF ODDS...

Post by zingstone » Mon Dec 01, 2008 8:47 am

In the UK, if you buy a National Lottery ticket on Thursday, you’re 1110 more times more likely to die over the weekend than win.Bearing in mind that Taxi® boasts a membership of well over 12,000 and a 6% deal success rate, would anyone like to calculate the odds on how many musicians will expire before seeing their three hundred bucks again?

You made me laugh I don't know how to feel about that. And I leave it alone. The song is great! The situation is humorous Only thing I can say is, the Chorus doesn't flow smoothly on the second part of some of the lines. It felt great on the first and last lines- but the middle felt, awkward?

I think this is a great song!!!I think the reason it was returned is the very reason it could and should be a success. It's different,it's quirky,it's fun,it's clever. It's a hit!!!!!The screener that is looking for a formulaic hit has overlooked this gem.

Quote:that's incorrect. It's 6% of submissions are forwarded. Really? Then why does it say "our success ratio for members who score deals usually runs about 6% per year" on this page:http://www.taxi.com/songwriting2/index.html?Surely you're not suggesting it's actually less than a 6% success rate? I mean, there are some people here in their fifties.I think we should at least mention it somewhere in the Country forum and let them take their chances with the lottery.Quote:TAXI has a money back guarantee, too. So odds are if you are unhappy, you will get your $300 bucks back How will they know you're unhappy if you're dead, though?

That made my day! The verses have been tweaked to flow better. It's all in the delivery too. This is a break-up song from a guys point of view (I guess).Dale

Don't take what i said incorrectly. I believe the screener was correct overall. It's a side b to a great hit by an artist that would make great music at a concert or gig, but not the number 1 hit they are looking for.The finished product was easily good enough to listen to all the way without having to think too much and maybe that's what they wanted. A story line that was going to make the listener thnk. Your story line was pretty basic. Everyone would be two stepping to the music and not really paying attention to the words for the most part. IMHO and i'm not established except at the bar i drink at and at my ex's house! lolDoc

Hey Doc.It's a side b to a great hit by an artist that would make great music at a concert or gig, but not the number 1 hit they are looking for.To have a #1 from every cut on an album (outside of a greatest hits) would even beat the Beatles. Wouldn't that be something? Couldn't a song just be an album cut and NOT A NUMBER 1?Hell, I'd take an album cut anyday if it meant on an major release. It's like the ol' 'herd mentality', Doc. If 'they' say it's so...must be...as the lemmings jump off the cliff...Like I mentioned this song IS getting a cut in January (WAHOO).I was ~THIS CLOSE~ to having it cut by a group out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, but they broke up before the session. It was played live for a while, and even was on THE TULSA LIVE TV show to an audience of 700,000. The lead singer was a semi-finalist on Nashville Star and if he made it to the Finals, he was going to do this song as an original. (DARN!) he didn't make the Finals.Dale
