Omnisphere can't find sound sources :(

Post by fusilierb » Sun May 20, 2012 9:54 am

All of a sudden Omnisphere won't load most of the patches. Says it can't find the Soundsources, which look like they are all still right where they've always been. Tried calling Spectrsonics support and missed their return call. "The Googles" are failing me miserably.

Has anyone ever run into this issue. How did you solve it? I really need to get this working again. Should I just re-install??

I've never run into this. If the plug-in and STEAM folder reside on different drives (as would usually be the case) it's possible that the shortcut/alias linking the two got corrupted. Maybe delete that and create a new one? You could also try re-installing just the plug-in (not the library) which would take little time and might fix the problem. Or "repair permissions"? I'm not on Mac but that's the first thing all of my Mac buddies do whenever anything goes screwy...

Spectrasonics has a procedure for putting the "STEAM" folder on another drive which involves creating an alias for it and putting that alias in a certain folder in one of the Library/Application Support folders (top level or user level, can't remember). The thing is you have to remove the word "alias" or it won't work.

Do a search for STEAM and find the original and the alias, trash the alias and create a new one and put it in the correct Application Support folder.

If that doesn't work, repairing permissions is a good idea, maybe start there anyway.

matto, didn't know you spoke a little "mac" ;)

Thanks guys, I tried all of that and still nothing. I bit the bullet and just fed CD's into my system for the past three hours. Good news is that Omnisphere is working again. :)

The bad news was that it took three hours of feeding CD's into my system. :(
