On The Other Side - Singer Songwriter Song

Post by southpaw » Sun Sep 02, 2012 2:47 pm

Hey guys got a new one up, and i know that there is still some work left on it.

Would love your opinion and feedback on the lyrics, the mix, and the melody.

Couple questions, are the background vocals mixed to loud? Are the vocals too loud in general in the mix?

I hardly used any effects, just rolled off EQ, no delay, and almost no reverb, but used my trusty waves 1176 plug for some compression. Some nice ik multimedia hall Reverb on the chorus though.

Would you like to hear it more "dressed up," or do you like the up-close dry feel?

"On The Other Side" Written/Produced by Jamie Leger

Verse 1:

I'll test the waters
sink or swim
i'll climb the mountain
before you begin

i'll hold off all my love
while you won't let it in
but i been to hell and back
where should i begin

in the beginning
there was light
that quickly turned
into the darkest night

now i only go
by the signs i know
will lead me back to my home

Chorus:

Know that you-- may have let me down
But i wont-let-- your head hit the ground
gave up all i had and then gave more

so i'll go it alone
and then i'll be home
"On the Other Side"

Verse 2:

I wait in limbo
come out at night
i'm drifting further
out of sight

more confusion-fused
with what is right

cuz i been to hell and back
where should i begin

in the beginning
there was light - ya
that quickly turned
into the darkest night

now i only go
by the signs i know
will lead me
back to my home

Chorus:

Bridge:

Doubt you
would understand
still without you
still i stand
and i came back
master plan
baby how are you

but know that
it's not about
the blame game
who's right or wrong
but still there's no shortcut
across this river

Chorus:

Outro:

Hey, Jamie

I really like the production on this. It's clean, clear and simple. Nice work.

Must be honest, though, your chorus sounds like a pre-chorus, at least to my ears. I think you could make much more of the title line as a chorus on its own with a strong hook.

Just my thoughts...

Nick
