I enjoyed reading this thread.... all the best to you.
I have my own thoughts on the screeners. Having met a few at the rally, and setting down to lunch with them....
I think they are intentionally harder on the music in many (but not all) cases then the end user would be... this results in returns that the end user would NOT return if they had the opportunity to hear the songs. case in point. I submitted 2 songs to a listing for a major production library. One was forwarded and the other returned by the screener. A few days later, I got an email from the president of the library asking me to call him. He wanted to hear more of my music. SO...... I sent him 2 more tunes...the other one that was returned for that same listing and another that was returned from another similar listing. A week later, I got contracts in the mail for ALL THREE SONGS.... they have been signed and are now on his CD/web page in that genre.
So while I think the screeners do know what they are doing, I believe they eliminate many songs that should be forwarded.
On the other hand.... not going to mention names or listings here.... but I heard a song that was forwarded to a specific listing (some time in the past 6 months) that my jaw dropped into my lap upon hearing the horrid quality of the music, production, and singing. It sounded like a bedroom recording with a cassette recorder..... but it was forwarded....I thought ..What the....???????
I also agree that TAXI is but one road to travel in this business. Obviously, there are many more ways to get music into the end user's hands.... it takes time, and effort to find these ways and the people on the other end, but they often are a more direct route than through the screeners at TAXI. I have found a number of these myself and as a result have quite a few tunes signed into easily close to a dozen other libraries as a result. Some good, some maybe not....
I plan to let the dispatch go when it expires in a few months, but continue my TAXI membership as I will likely continue to submit to the listings here for a while.
my 2 cents....
