Thanks to CD Baby's digital distribution service, who negotiated a deal with the company, SnoCap, who allows for paid downloads sold through your MySpace page, ONOFFON's entire repertoire is available for download purchase right there on our MySpace site -http://www.myspace.com/onoffon Right now, our current highest selling site is Emusic, followed by iTunes. It will be interesting if we start to see sales from SnoCap...

What a weekend!!!!!Saturday was my birthday - and it just happened to fall on the third weekend of the month which happens to be when my cover band plays our monthly gig at Chaser's Lounge in the city of Orange. So, Friday night at midnight, we rocked in my birthday and then, on Saturday, we rocked out my birthday all night long. Not only that, but the drummer in that band has his birthday on the 22nd so I passed the baton on to him at midnight and rocked in his birthday! How cool was that?On Friday, the club's owner had to be called to work because the two bartender's already working couldn't handle the crowd. He said it was his biggest night ever! He was smiling from ear to ear at the end of the night and shaked all our hands and thanked us profusely...Plus, there was a person from the Pala Casino in San Diego there who wants us to play a gig there (this weekend, ZZ Top is performing), and also a person from the Voodoo Lounge was interested in booking us...A great time was had by all!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday, Von. Any beer consumption involved at all? (after the gig, of course)

Thanks DiCarlo!!!! Always a pleasure to see you, my friend... On the documentary front, I just got another rare gem from eBay. A recording of Woody Herman's Second Herd that has my father playing with Woody Herman when Stan Getz, Shorty Rogers, and Zoot Sims were with the band. What a line-up of amazing talent!!!To top it off, my dad's on the cover!!!! And the booklet inside has three great pictures of my dad playing with the band from the Commodore Hotel in NYC, April 20, 1948!OMG!!!! It's so great to continually find pieces like this to help document my father's career and add to the volumes of material I already have... Cheers!

I've just picked up another great piece of my father's musical journey...I've got this VERY cool picture of the Pete Rugolo Orchestra from 1954. It's one of those that we've had in the family scrapbook all our lives. It is a great shot from Universal Studios - the orchestra is set up next to a huge swimming pool with 1950's bathing beauties sitting all around it - a classic shot.Well, I recently became aware that there was a digitally remastered 2-CD set of this orchestra re-released by Fresh Sound Records in Barcelona, Spain. What an incredible set of recordings!!!!It features the cream of the west coast crop - among others are Maynard Ferguson, Shorty Rogers, Shelly Manne, Jimmy Giuffre, Howard Roberts, Claude Williamson, Bud Shank, Bob Gordon, Bob Cooper, Buddy Childers, Pete Candoli, John Graas, Milt Bernhart, and, of course, Harry Babasin...What a great find - to have the recording that accompanies the picture is tremendous - a wonderful addition to the documentary. The hits just keep on coming..

Hey Von,In spite of all your various posts, the significance of your dad's place in music history didn't really hit me until I saw the film clip with him playing with practically all the jazz greats from the 40's (I'm guessing it was roughtly that time period). That was pretty impressive. It's kind of like a deal in football where everyone knows the name of Bart Starr or Terry Bradshaw but the offensive linemen that allowed those QB's to make all their great plays go almost unnoticed. Keep keeping the public informed, Dave

I spoke with a representative from the House of Blues Foundation. Although they stopped short of helping to fund the documentary, he told me that they would be more than willing to host a fundraising concert at one of their facilities. They look for organizations and projects just like mine to work with in bringing a greater awareness to cultural and humanitarian causes.Imagine the show, or series of shows, we could put on with musicians from my father's era that are still around playing and current jazz musicians I have networked and played with through the years.Remember - the mission statement of Jazz In Hollywood is "dedicated to the preservation of the schools of west coast jazz and the innovative evolution of the artform."

Pretty cool! Just make sure Phil Spector isn't your "Master Of Ceremonies".
