OO's & AH's in an Instrumental?

Post by regansongs » Thu Mar 01, 2018 11:05 pm

Hey gang! Do you think oo's and ah's are acceptable for Instrumental submissions?

I love to arrange and use vocals as textures or add melodies without lyrics, but not sure how that would go over with Taxi.

Any thoughts or past experiences? Thanks.

I'd be interested in an experienced answer to this as well.

My thought/opinion would be; as long as it serves the song, the same way any instrument playing a melodic part would. And does not detract from the dialog the same way a vocal with words would, it should be fine. I guess it's all how it is mixed/blended as well.

The Taxi listings usually mention if vocal snippets are acceptable, so be sure to watch for that. IMHO, if they are not mentioned you should stay away from using them.

Weren't there LOTS of chorale/voices used in the 'instrumental' soundtrack of "2001: A Space Odyssey"? That's pretty high-bar stuff.
But, like Paulie wrote: what's the client's listing asking for, or warning against?
Maybe it's about blending them in such that they don't stand apart as voices, per se.

imo as long as they are well blended and part of the texture of the piece it's cool

not in a finished song, as a place holder until you can write the lyrics or hire singer(s). It's BORING! I suppose you could use a mixture of all the vowel sounds, but then they would be so close to real words and could be consequential, lol, eg. uh you.
