Orchestral Rock Guitar

Can anybody recommend me an electric guitar for Orchestral Rock (for film & tv) music..
i'm going to record some music a la :espn, xgames, sports stuff..
i have some old cheap guitars.. should i upgrade the guitar..
any other gear you recommend for this type of music
plug ins etc..
i'm planning to use
guitar rig, fender precision, east west gold, ezdrummer

As long as it holds tuning, any guitar will do. More important will be how you shape your tone and fit the parts into the mix. You'd certainly be able to do it with the tools you have. FWIW, I only use Rammfire for amp modelling even though I have the full Guitar Rig.

You will need a good compressor and limiter to pull these mixes together. There are plenty of quality software options made by Flux, Voxengo, Waves and others.

maybe i'll keep using my old guitar..
i tought that maybe it was time to upgrade my electric guitar

ESP Horizon Custom and Hamer Centaura.

....and there's never a bad excuse for blowing money on a new guitar unless it takes food from the mouths of any children.

However, the reality is that the publishers and end users don't care if you used a $100 Chinese made piece of junk...as long as the sound is right.

Not that I am any expert on this genre by far, but my thought is:

If you have some old guitars, instead of buying a new one, string one with humbuckers with heavier strings and detune to B or thereabouts so that you have that low-tuned metal sound that seems to be favored as of late.

Anything with humbuckers and a Floyd Rose should do; I like an Ibanez, but there are great options available from ESP, Schecter and Jackson, particularly if you want more of a metal look. Most of those I listed offer seven and eight string models if you need more range. If you're looking used/budget, consider Peavey's Wolfgang models from a few years back; they're a great value. Look for a wide, flat neck and big frets; most of the above will fit the bill.

and generally - the pointier the headstock the better LOL. a la one of my first guitars, a charvel with active pickups and a floyd rose. really sounded terrible for other stuff, but for metal vibe, rock on.

Those active EMGs are really designed to work with rack gear, but can sound great in the right context; Dave Gilmour manages to get some good out of them, and sounds very orchestral.
