Other licensing sights

So I was perusing the interwebs and came across a few other music licensing sites, (some similar to TAXI) and wondered if anyone has any experience or knowledge about them.

broadjam.com - most similar to TAXI but a few differences. The tracks go direct, but are not even guaranteed a listen by anyone other than a peer. Plus pricing etc...

beatpick.com - in lieu of a registration fee they do a 50/50 license fee split, composer keeps 100% royalties. Not sure who or how they pitch though.

youlicense.com - you can host your music in their search engine and supervisors can search through it. Seems kind of hit or miss, but you can post 10 tracks for free, and artists manage the deal beginning to end.

I'd love to hear if anyone has used these or heard any success/horror stories?

I've been on Youlicense for a few years now with no luck (there's a free membership for 10 songs) but it's always worth a try..if you do some creative google/bing searches you'll find more than a few music licensing options...I can't mention company names as per Taxi's rules here...I'm aware of Broadjam & Beatpick but never bothered with them...good luck

I have had a few songs placed through Broadjam but have not made any significant money through them. Certainly nothing as compared to what I have made working through Taxi.

I'm really new here to Taxi and just starting to poke my way around ! I've actually been on Broadjam for for about 6 months now and on the suggestion of a friend who is a taxi member decided to start up an account here as well. I guess I wont be able to really offer a comparison between the 2 until I've been on taxi for longer, but from a first impression I'd say they have the same philosophy but are very different in a few key ways.

Peer interaction seems to be a key component in the artist profile, as well as Broadjam providing their own list of competitions and events. I guess the best way I could describe it is to say Broadjam is more of a facebook in a sense and not a forum community. Artist profiles have a more open wall and you can post updates statuses and can keep track of other artists by friending or following them. Broadjam hosts a couple big internal music and songwriting challenges every year (I was lucky enough to place second in the Stienberg hosted challenge and got a nice 4,000.00 prize package.)

The licensing ops are handled similarly, but in my case a lot cheaper to submit too. They had a membership deal that provided 1 free submission per week which was very nice. You can search them by category or genre similar to taxi. Prem Members pay 5.00 per submission, but broadjam also runs a top 10 charts for region, and genre. If a song of yours is in a top 10 you only pay 50% of the submission fee (2.50) which is nice. In the six months I've been there I've had 4 libraries approach me to license about 26 of my songs, though I have yet to see any return on those as this has all happened more recently. I was just recently contacted though one op I submitted for with an AC song of mine that the song is being considered for a 6k license for film. I find out about that on the 31st and that would be the first significant payout for me.

I really like how broadjam also lists any major competitions through their sight and makes submitting to them very easy. UK songwriting contest, ICS, ISC Indie, King Cat, Song of the Year, USA song of the year, all list through bj and you simply have to select the songs you want to enter that you've already upload to bj and they will be submitted (Of course at the same cost as usual).

I've on been on Taxi for a few days now, and it's always different and takes some adjusting to get to know the community and get involved. Also finding how things work here with ops and licensing is a bit different, but it seems very professional and no frills. I'm hoping that means I'll get better feedback on my music and that more serious ops come through taxi. We'll see. Either way having a membership in both is just my way to trying to connect with more people and opportunities. Also, BJ doesn't have a rally or road show like Taxi and that's another benefit I wanted to take advantage of. Perhaps in a while I'll find out from a money perspective which one offers a better return.

Broadjam seems alright but the only thing that turns me off from them is their lack of detail in the opportunity listings, e.g. "Uptempo Pop Songs Needed for Video". Seems pretty broad and there is no "a-la" reference points to help the songwriter narrow it down. If I recall non-member submission fees are $10 - without a membership you could end up dumping a good chunk of change by submitting willy-nilly to the vauge though compelling opportunities (in their defense they do still offer the 1 free submission per week deal with full membership).

Glad to hear you're seeing some success with them so power to ya!!! Maybe I shoud reconsider?

Nathan, The Road Rally Alone is so worth it. For 300 bucks the first year and 200 each consecutive year, is a great price just for the Rally.
I have made some great contacts just showing up and being friendly. Also, the classes are awesome and very informative. Hopefully I will see you at the next one!

Yes this is what I'm hearing Matt! It's one of the big reasons I joined up. I think Taxi is doing great work in providing a venue where artists and industry pros can connect in the real world !
