Pandemic song/feedback request -- NEW

Post by BDTPT1H » Wed Mar 16, 2022 2:15 pm

Hello, all. I’m new here, hoping for some feedback.

I’ve posted a pandemic themed song. As of right now, I’ve submitted it to mostly country listings.

I’ve gotten good feedback on the song, but have missed the mark with submissions.

Do you hear it as a country song? Should I be submitting to Adult Contemporary or some other category?

Does it need a full band as opposed to the trio that’s recorded here?

Is the fact that it’s a pandemic song slighting its chances? (I can fix a lot of these other issues. I can’t fix that one.)

I know the recording and musicianship are up to industry standards.

Thank you all for your feedback!

Without knowing what listings they were submitted to and what the reference tracks were it's a little difficult to say - it doesn't really sound like a country song to me, and comes over more like a throwback singer songwriter ( classic 70's era style ) style track. You have some nice chord changes in there but I wouldn't put it as Adult Contemporary either because it sounds too retro to my ears.

Many of the listings want contemporary tracks as most of the movies & TV's made are set in the current day but there is a also place for songs that sound like they could have been written & recorded in previous decades and those listings do sometimes crop up so they may be worth looking out for if that's more in your wheelhouse.

Either arrangement could work - it depends on the listing requirements really.

You'll see a lot of Listings mention " Universal Lyrics " ....that's avoiding specific names, dates , places, events etc. so the song can be used for different purposes. You do hint at the pandemic but on the whole I think the lyrics are reasonably universal. i.e. they could apply to other situations. You could improve that aspect even further with a tweak of the lyrics.

Hope that helps

Mark

Hey Briand
First, what is your goal for the song? Pitching to an artist? Film/TV?

The vocal performance here isn't good enough to pitch with any success. For an artist pitch you don't need a full band, a piano/vocal will do, but it has to be exceptional- the kind of tune that blows people away.

Another issue with the song is it's very down/depressing. For the pandemic, songs about surviving the worst, getting through the hard times, etc. with a positive spin are MUCH more marketable. This applies to both Film/TV and artist pitches. Don't get me wrong, I have tons of sad songs, in fact most are (relationship breakups, etc.). But I recall during the whole pandemic, there were tons of requests for songs for Film/TV about survival. And I know that artists *generally* don't want to be associated with songs like that, especially from outside writers.

Again, tell us more about your goal and we can guide you a bit better. ;D

Best,
:D Casey

Thanks to all for the replies so far. Useful stuff!

To answer the question from Casey H., I'm just hoping to get it placed, whether it's film/TV (end credits?) or with an artist.

I'm new to TAXI and this aspect of the business, so I'm trying to find my way, like a lot of us, I suppose.

Thanks again!

B
