I recently had a big life change including a move, and have been going thru stuff I havent looked at for up to 20s that had been in storage. One such item I found was an old Peavey 6 channel mixer (complete with VU meter!!!!). I think I bought it off my guitar teacher at the time in the early 80s and it was well used then. I took it to the local used music shop (run by a good friend of mine) and said get what you can for it. I dropped in today on another subject, and he had cleaned it all up and was using it in his rehearsal studio. He mentioned that it had its own reverb tank. I said "Really?not this unit?" and I tapped on it to indicate the unit I was talking about. The sound of a disturbed reverb tank could immediately be heard (like when you bump your Fender or equiv guitar amp and it makes that noise?). I tapped it again and it made the same sound. My mind is racing... Of course, back in the day there were no DSP processors, so if a board was going to ahve reverb on teh vocals, the tank would need to be built in...He advised me this is probably worth more to you than what I can get for it, so I took it home.
i'm thinking about using it as an outboard reverb effect. Any advice on what kind of tracks to use it on, (master buss send, or maybe individual tracks)? Or will I find it not as exciting once I start playing with it? Any opinions? I wonder what sending my tracks through the board will do to the sound if anything??? Hmmmm lots of fun experementation coming up.

You won't know, 'til you try, right? I would try mixing some stems through it. It might end up giving you some extra weight and depth, and for surf guitar instrumentals a la Dick Dale, there's nothing quite like a real spring reverb for that 'splash and sproing' sound. It can be pretty killer on a lo-fi vocal, too.
