Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
Myxer's instructions for putting their Widget on Facebook and Myspace leave a lot to be desired. Grab code and drop where you want. Naturally, there's a few more steps in the process. After looking all over Myspace for the place to drop in my code and not finding it, I did a Google search about it. Myxer has a myspace page showing where to put their widget. It can go in the "Interests" modules like movies, tv, and surprise music. So looked around Myspace again for the place to edit my interests. Looked on Google too and the explanations were not understandable to me. Gave up. Went over to Facebook. Couldn't see where to paste the code. Did a Google search. Found something about having to sign up for applications. Didn't understand that either.
Does anyone have experience doing this and is good at explaining what Myxer should have taken the time to do on the part of their site where they offer the code?
Thanks

Re: Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
Go to my Facebook fanpage, and tell me what you see; I only get admin view, unless I log out. If you see a theater marquee and a player, mine worked. I used a beta called http://damntheradio.com to customize my fanpage; how you do it depends on whether you have the upgraded fanpage. Keep in mind you must be using FB AS your fanpage for any of this stuff to work; you can't do it on your regular FB profile.
You should be able to connect to FB from Myxer. If you can see a Myxer icon in the box at the left side of your fanpage. The tricky part is setting your Reverbnation or Myxer thingy (used to be called a tab, and looked like a tab-find it on the left side of your page) as the default landing tab for others; detailed instructions can be found on the Facebook forum and in Facebook help.
Can't help you with Myspace, I don't bother with widgets, there, anymore, since they screwed 'em all up; I jes' make sure my other links are as prominently displayed as their crappy layout allows.

Re: Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
On your Facebook page i saw you rockin on guitar but not seenig any Myxer widget. I do see your Reverbnation Widget but not a Myxer widget. Maybe that's what you meant but I had to log in to see it and it took forever to display on my connection. Was about to write back to you that even when I log in I can't see anything but now that I've waited long enough, there's the Reverbnation widget right there. I tried to send this message on Facebook but an error came back but maybe it will still display there later and be a duplicate of this. Welcome to modernity.
As far as Myspace goes myxer has a page showing just how their widgets should look when they're placed where they should go. http://www.myspace.com/450788115
But of course no explanation as to HOW to do that. I wrote to Myspace yesterday and they were actually able to get back to me today with an explanation not easy to follow.
However of Mystuff>Edit Profile>SelectGendre>SetLocation>ClickSave>ViewUpdates in GeneralInfo>Select"More" to expand fields.
That is not an explanation of how to add a widget unfortunately.
Lastly they say add html boxes from module section in customization editor.
I don't think I want to add html boxes. I think I want to edit existing boxes so I still don't know how to do it even after they bother to explain.

Re: Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
I found the "How do I change the default tab...) in the Facebook FAQ's. It says click "Edit Page" under the profile picture. Problem is, my photo doesn't say Edit Page underneath, it says "Get Started."

Fan pages just got a mandatory [sigh] upgrade; perhaps after you click "get started" and take the tour, you'll see the edit link. You don't see a Myxer widget, cuz I don't use Myxer, I used damntheradio to pull in my reverbnation player.

Re: Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
Thanks a million Mojo, you've really helped me a lot these last few days. I was wondering where else do you have your Reverbnation widget besides Facebook and perhaps your personal website. Are there any other sites that you have your Reverbnation widget on that you feel is worthwhile to also do?
Does anyone else do Myspace widgets?

Re: Placing Widgets in Facebook and Myspace
I've gone through Facebook's get started tour AGAIN and it's still asking me to add a Facebook "like" box as step one of completing my Getting Started hurdle. It seems they will never remove the getting started button under my picture until I complete this step. I have a mobile phone site through Myxer. Wonder if I can add that @#$% thing over there.
