Playback speed of Adobe Audition 1.5

I had not used the program for months and decided I'd better get busy and record for jobs. My first recording, when I played it back, went 90 mph and sounded like the chipmunks of old. I have tried everything I can think of--I am not experienced in recording--and hit walls every time. can anyone guide me on what to change or push or click on to get playback speed back to normal ? Video tutorials are extremely hard to find , although as I look in the products previous name-Cool Edit 1.2-I find everything but what I need. I did find A..A 1.5 tutorials in Spanish--which I do not know well enough. I hope someone can help me out.

Sounds like the sample rate is different on playback than what the audio was recorded at.
